I had the most simple return, two W-2's. No deductions, no options, just a half an hour of their time. $275 is what they came at me with. I politely but oh so firmly said that was ridiculously high for what was done.
Being well dressed and having had an articulate conversation with the preparer over the course of my return being worked on, the preparer rightfully assumed I was not going to take this lying down. He promptly got on the phone and asked me what I thought a fair price was.
I
have seen my fair share of Pawn Star episodes and came back at him with a counter of $150, almost half the bill. The person on the line OK'ed it.
The point of this is Liberty Tax is not at fault, as is the system we reside in. Caveat Emptor rules the land and take this as a lesson for next year. Almost ALL privately-provided services that we pay for are subject to barter and haggling in order to secure our business. I look at it like this, Happy Hunting!
