In order to garnish a paycheck, there has to be a judgement against you. A collection agency can not just take money out of your pay. There are a couple of opitions here, you can petition the court for hardship or to lower the payment. Their only allow to take of certain %, of your pay

Marie, When you wrote that letter to them, that was all they needed, You agreed you owed the debt, and they probably went straight to the court and obtained a summary judgement. If you ever paid them by check, they had your banking info, and if you have direct deposit at work, the employer info is readily available. This is why you NEVER call or speak to any debt collector on the phone, and NEVER admit to anything. The entire legal burden of proof is on them. At this point YOU NEED A LAWYER. Hopefully the account was past SOL when they initiated legal action. If this is the case, you can get the judgement vacated, and get your money back., less what the lawyer costs you. Close that bank account immediately and open one at a DIFFERENT bank, and if you have direct deposit, stop it and get a paper check. Then cash your check at a check casher and deposit cash in your new bank account until you get all of this resolved. If your job is not that special to you, quit and go get another one. This will throw them off your trail for awhile and they will have to spend more time and money to do it all over again. It all depends how serious you are in not paying them. Keep in mind that the original creditor is most likely out of the picture, and a JUNK DEBT BUYER is the owner of the debt, who paid far less than a penny on the dollar for it. Good luck.
