I was reviewing my credit reports online (experian, trans union, equifax) when I noticed that an entry was made on my transunion, and equifax report that I owed $133.00 to MCI.

LVNV was the collection agency. I had an account with MCI many years ago, and do not recall owing any money to them, what do I do now?

Contact your attorney general office, they pulled this on my mother with over charges from mci who people won a lawsuit agaisnt mci years ago, for mci fraudlently charging over charges to people. Lv funding is purchashing these account over charges & secertly placing them on peoples credit files, contact your attorney general office that will quickly get this bill of your credit files lv funding cannot collect on this or place it on peoples credit files, they cannot place old accounts to your credit files but they will try every tactic. Lv, purchased this from mci 09/05 but placed it to my mothers credit files 05/06 8 months later why do they wait so long for placing this stuff to your credit files, also just sue them for damanges because this has been settle in a lawsuit with mci in court for mci fraudlently charging over charges!. Just, make a complaint to your attorney general office that is what helped my mother get if of her credit files!.

Paulette, All you need to do is send a "DEBT VALIDATION" request to the COLLECTION AGENCY [LVNV]. In this letter you clearly dispute the debt and DEMAND to see something you signed, along with an account history. Send this by certified mail, return reciept requested. be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself and keep a copy for your records. Send a letter of dispute by the same means above to each credit bureau and just dispute it as "NOT MY ACCOUNT" and demand to see something you signed, and an account history. Keep it short and simple. Just a few sentences. This debt may be past the Statute of Limitations for collection anyway, as the SOL in NY is 6 years from date of last activity. Once again, Don is giving bad advice due to his 2 weeks on the job. Here are some more facts for you. And go to the internet to read all about these lowlife. 1). LVNV is a junk debt buyer who specializes in the purchase of very old, usually time barred debts. They buy debts of this age and type for about 1/10th of a penny on the dollar. 2). You NEVER contact the original creditor when a collection agency has an account. It is illegal for that original creditor to deal with you once assigned or sold to a 3rd party collector. They do not want to hear from you as they only keep records about 2-3 years anyway. 3). Never speak to any 3rd party collector on the phone. NEVER. Always DEMAND that all communications be in writing. 4). NEVER send payment or agree to make payment to any 3rd party collector. This will re-affirm the debt and restart both the 7 year negative payment history, as well as the SOL for collections enforcement. It is best to ignore a 3rd party collector. Change your phone# to an unlisted one and mark "not at this address/ return to sender" on any mail you get from them and drop in a big blue mailbox. The only thing you do not ignore is a summons, which is very unlikely you would ever get, especially on a $133 debt. I hope this helps ! Good luck.

Paulette, Your post did not mention that you had been contacted by a debt collector yet, so the first thing I would reccommend is that you contact MCI. They should have records of everything. If you hear from (or already have), ask for validation of the debt. The collector will the dispute to MCI, who have to provide you with documentation.
