The company claims MagicJack works with Microsoft Windows, XP or Vista and Apple/Mac. In fact it doesn't work on my Mac, a standard OS 10.2; it only works on "Intel-driven" Macs.

The ads say, simply plug in and use. When I first plugged it in, I got a screen giving me some complex task to perform, so I unplugged it and set it aside for the next time I had a techie visiting. Then I had to get a hip replacement. As a result I didn't get to try installing it again until after the 30-day trial period ended, and only then did I learn that it didn't work on my computer.

I contacted "Diana," a live chat person who was adamant that I could not have a refund because the 30-day trial period was over. She refused to acknowledge the company's misrepresentation or my reasons for overrunning the trial period, and did not respond when I asked whether the bad publicity I would generate was worth the $40 she was denying me. She was "not allowed" to transfer me to another supervisor or give me a phone number.

I am beyond disgusted with companies with so-called "customer service" policies like this, that make compassionate human beings hang their heads in shame at being in the same species as their policymakers. And when their advertising lies as well, they should be barred from business and their executives relieved of their millions and thrown into prison. The MagicJack is an exciting product but its inventor, Dan Borislow, needs a few lessons in elementary decency before he is allowed to market it to his fellow human beings.
