Figure it out - the scammers use legitimate names of businesses and banks - but always provide bogus addresses. THIS IS TO APPEAR LEGITIMATE If you had called the bank - they could have told you that the check was bogus, - not sure where "merchants" came from. A lot of people have posted on boards that they called the bank the check was supposedly drawn on - only to be told it was not valid. If you called the number the scammers provided- of course they will give some lame excuse as to why they would not do it. You could have also asked your OWN bank to verify (without depositing it) and they would have told you it was bogus.

It still goes on and will continue as long as unsuspecting people keep falling for it.
