Matt (owner) of Bear Trailersports and his assistant Jeff Hasslebach Bear Trailersports refuses to give me my cargo trailer's license plate.

I bought a cargo trailer for $5,500. from Bear Trailersports in Canoga Park in November 2000. I was promised time and time again a license plate for my trailer. I paid in full $244. to the owner Matt and his assistant Jeff hasslebach. I was promised my license plate in January of 2001. it is now August and still no license plate.

They refuse now to return all of my phone calls and e-mails. Their customer service was excellent until they got their hands on my money to build my trailer. Then their customer service went sour. My trailer was two months late being completed, the paint on it was aweful! All equipment was mounted crooked and to put me at ease, they threw in a bunch of extras. Did not put my mind at ease at all! They claim to be L.A.'s "Best trailers in the industry". They are wrong about that.

I am not the first to file a complaint against them, nor will I be the last. One would think with all the money and patience I tolerated for all the companies excuses, poor customer service and just plain crap, I would be treated much better than this. Anybody out there looking to use this company, don't. Want any info. on them, just ask me @ [email protected]

#2REBUTTAL Individual responds

Tue, July 23, 2002

I was astonished to find that Mr Garcia had the gall to post a rip off report. This individual was a nightmare from day one. I should have known better than to deal with this individual. The first sign of trouble is when he asked me for a quote for a trailer to do auto detailing. After stating many times that i should "give him a deal" because he was on limited funds, I wrote up a quote, and discounted $1000 dollars off the price. I thought this was more than generous since I did mot owe this individual anything, but felt it would be a nice thing to do for someone who wanted to get started in the business on a limited budget. Mr Garcia then drove out to meet me, complaining several times about the drive and that it was too far for him. what was I supposed to do, bring my shop to him? I proceeded to show him what i could build for him, and my jaw nearly dropped when he asked for another $500 dollars off. I wanted to tell him at that moment to get lost, but I felt sorry for this individual. I agreed to build him a unit FOR $1500 LESS THAN WE NORMALLY CHARGE. These units are quite specialized, and take some time to build. They are not something that is in stock, we build themcompletely from scratch. I stated to Mr. Garcia that our normal lead time is 60 days. This wasn't acceptable to Mr Garcia. He said he really needed to get going with the business and requested that we have it finished in 30 days. I told him that I could see if I could get it finished any sooner but there was no guarantee, and I am sure he does not have anything in writing stating otherwise. After about 15 days, the persistent calls started coming, an average of 2 a day asking where his unit was. we were about halfway finished with building his frame for his unit. I remember one particular conversation in which I reminded Mr Garcia of our lead time, which seemed to go in one ear and out the other. The storage box that we put on the unit, is made by a military contracted company. It is not a generic item, and i was having serious problems obtaining one, s I told Mr. Garcia that I would assemble the rest of the unit, and DELIVER IT to him, which I did, and when the box came in, I would attach it at a later date. This way he could get started doing cars and making money since the box in not an essential item. The funny thing was, when I delivered the unit, he was more than pleased with the quality of the unit, and gave me several compliments. We are a nationwide company with units in 30 states and counting, and although every company has at least one dissatisfied customer, I am a little mystified about Mr. Garcias" statement that there are other dissatisfied Bear Trailersport customers, and would also love to see some documentation from these "customers" When Mr Garcias' storage box finally arrived at the shop, I rushed it over to powdercoat and had it ready for him two days later. He said that his schedule was busy and that he would not be able to come up to the shop for a few days. Two weeks later when he did make it, I worked overtime until 10:30 pm to attach the box and set up his vacuum system. Then Mr. Garcia had the audacity to tell me that I owed him some more free things, probably forgetting the money that he had already saved. I no longer felt sorry for this individual, and realized he was just plain cheap, and was trying to grind out the best deal he could. As far as his registration goes, I do not dispute what he says, that was due to a glitch in Sacramento, and was out of my control. But he did recieve his license pate, tags, and registration. I contacted him many times to keep him updated of the situation. I at no time refused to give him his license, tags, and reg. I just simply could not give him what I did not have. We literally bent over backwards to please Mr. Garcia. Our reputation is very dear to us and feel that we got the short end of the stick, since Mr Garcia haggled us to where we barely made any money off of him, and got a giant headache in the process. There are two sides to every story, and when the facts are laid out Mr. Garcias' statements and story just come up as little short.
