Mayo Fredrick Duca who likes to also go by the name of Mike. has a few ads on craigslist. All over New England, East Coast and even on the west coast. All the way in San Luis Obispo Califronia under the "Craftsman For New England" name. I came across his post looking for a shed to build and was about $300 cheaper then most and actually replied. As other companies did not reply. I reached him Via email and text. Spoke to him a few times. After a couple of conversions. He agreed to meet to take a look at where I wanted the shed to be built. He showed up in a Uhaul pickup with a 4x6 in it to show me what he uses to build his "Post & Beam" Shed. After talking with him. And let me say. This old man can talk. Makes you feel like he's going to get this Shed built. He talks about how busy he is and that he is backed up with work for weeks. Assures me it will be 2 weeks and he'll have the shed built in a few days once he gets started. One catch. He needs a deposit to purchase the material from some local lumber mills. Mistake. After he leaves with your deposit. You can just look at it as gesture of good will or you just been had.
Calls and texts will go buy and he will give you every excuse in the book as to why he can't make it on the initial date that was agreed upon. Of course he never shows up. It was only after the fact that I searched his name. Better Business Bureau has 3 complaints on him. All having thier deposits taken and no product to show for it. This guy Mayo seems to make a living on taking peoples money. I'm writing this to warn others not to drop any cash in this mans hands. He is not looking out for anybodies best interest but his own. If you don't give him a deposit. He will tell you he can't build the shed and there in lies the problem. Any person worth thier word will tell you they will need the deposit AFTER they bring/drop off the materials for the job. They only thing Mayo Duca will drop off is a bunch of talk. This guy needs some jail time.
Do a search on his name. A few other business have cropped up that seem to follow the same pattern. Birdeye.com has several reviews of this scam artist. All seem to be complaints under the shellback cottage name. reviews.birdeye.com/shellback-cottages-715190784
I'm willing to go to court against someone who's words mean nothing. And going to court maybe the only option.
