Long story short -

First number - issued for an exchange 150 miles away. Long distance call from my kitchen to my living room.

Second number - could make outgoing calls but not receive incoming calls or activate voice mail. I was told that the phone was deactivated because the number was issued to someone else.

Third number - could not be activated because it was issued to someone else.

Fourth number - Guess what? It was issued to someone else.

Fifth number - no way! Do I look stupid?

On February 3, 2002, I requested a release from my contract without penalty. I was told they can only issue a new number and that I will be charged a $200 penalty. A supervisor told me the same fairy tale.

I sent a certified letter on February 16 and to this day (March 5) I have received no response from WorldCom.

For anyone who is interestes, the FCC has a complaint form that can be filled out on-line.

Yesterday (03/11/02) WorldCom actually called us - three times. It was to tell us that our number was going to be activated in
2-4 hours. Six hours later, this is hard to believe, it wasn't activated. Don't worry. We weren't surprised either.

Today (03/12/02) after several minutes on hold, an actual person was reached. Our story was told to them and we were assured things were being taken care of. Guess what? It is 7:00 P.M. EST and we have contact! Our phone works! We can make outgoing calls and receive incoming calls! We even have voice mail! Is this a great comapny or what? I can't wait to see our next bill.

But, and this is a big but, rest assured. When our contract is up three things will happen. (1)We will cancel our contract, (2) we will find another carrier, and (3) WorldCom will receive their phone back in pieces.

Fellow suckers take heart. There is hope, but don't count on it.

Complain to the FCC or the BBB or your local public utility. Get a lawyer. Whatever you do - DON'T TRUST MCI!!!!!!!!!
