In an effort to try and clear our name from the rip off title that William from North Port has labeled our company with; I would like to use this forum to shed some light on this matter. My name is Spencer and I worked hand and hand with the owner of this property and the superintendents that worked for our company at during the construction of his home. First let me say that our company didn't directly sell William his home or promise a delivery date on the home for William in the 8-11 month range. In the City of North Port there are approximately 37 inspections to CO a home and if you talk to any builder in the area, at the time that the home was built, they would have told you that it takes about 1 -2 years (on average) to complete a home. Permitting at this time took approximately about 6 months to get the septic permit from the county and then the building permit from the City of North Port. Things did move smoothly in the beginning but as we had problems during the construction we informed William and I personally met him on the job several times to go over issues at hand. I was never rude to him however, if being honest wasn't what he wanted to hear then maybe that is being rude. I don't deny that there were things that needed to be done to finish the house, as the home was not completed by us. William owned the lot and since things weren't moving to his expectations he tried to strong arm us by not allowing access to the job as well as denying payment for work that we completed; i.e. us placing liens on the property as well as the job stopping construction from time to time. Our company didn't force charge William any extra money to put in an aerobic septic system. This is what engineering called for on the land that he purchased and owned. This need was determined by the Health Department of Sarasota County. The extra cost that William had to pay was more than covered by the $23,000 that our company gave him to cover all of these cost as well as any interest payments that he felt that he was due because of time lost on the job and the inconvenience that he felt; whether it was warranted or not we gave William about $15,000 of our profit. The statement that William has had to pay for all of these items, attorneys, payment to contractors, repairs on the home etcis completely false. His total cost to finish the home was about $10,000 and that included his attorneys' fees too, so Meadows paid for all of these items plus much more. We have built hundreds of homes for customers in the Gulf Coast area and while every customer wasn't completely satisfied we've done our best to deliver the best product as quickly as possible. William doesn't know anything about our companies' financial situation and we have stopped building in the area because there isn't enough business to justify having an office opened at this time, even though we still own a Model Home in the City of North Port. This matter was settled about 2 years ago.
