After i married my wife, i wanted to know who are her creditor, i found out she have purchased an extended warranty for her car. she have signed for that warranty by phone on September 2008. Few days ago, she received a mail from "Warranty Activation Headquarters". She get confused, and i tried to figure out what's going on.

I found out she have set autopayment of 175$ each month to a financing company called "MEPCO".My wife never received a warranty contract, nor she have received any statement from the financing company. I called "MEPCO", a woman told i was not receiving bill because of the autopayment, some 1200$ are payed and i still have to pay 7 more months, she also told me that the warranty was provided by DealershipServices.I called the DealershipServices and i found out that she have a contract for a warranty until 2013, i asked to get a copy of the contract, and was told I'm going to receive it within 7 days. After that i made a search on Google, i discovered through the posted complains that my wife was a victim of a scam.

The technique of MEPCO and DealershipServices [Which i suspect to be a 2 head of the same viper]was evil. one company offer the service at a high price and offer financing through the second company. That way if you want to cancel you will have trouble. MEPCO will tell you that she already paid DealershipServices and want to get her money, and DealershipServices try to deny by all the way the refund of the payment.

I'm trying to resolve this issue and find a way to get my wife out of trouble by finding a solution for this problem.

Not making the monthly payment may cause the finance company to report a bad credit and end up with a more complex is a mission impossible.

Two solution have to be explored:

- Require the financing company to send me the document related to the warranty contract, and require DealershipServices to send me a copy of the contract. If they file to send them to me, i will notify them by registered mail, if not feedback was received i contact that attorney general to sue them.

- Get the detailed statement on the payment already made and the ones remaining and finish the payments like we didn't have heard about the scam.

My wife think that the second solution would be the less harmful for her credit and for the time she have to waste in court.

Anyone have an idea or a legal advice to help getting out of that mouse trap?

Thank you

MEPCO CAN NOT HARM YOUR CREDIT

MEPCO does not take your social security info. Just stop paying the warranty and your credit will not be harmed. The money was loaned to the warranty company and to your warranty seller. All MEPCO does is front money to companies and then collects it from you. THERE IS NO CREDIT RISK TO YOU OR YOUR WIFE!!!

Not a legal trap

What you need to do is to submit in writing to the administrator of your warranty that you would like to cancel or call the administrator and request a cancellation form. Once they receive that request they will cancel the contract for a $50 cancellation fee and a % of what you already paid into the contract. This will not affect your wife's credit because they do not report to the credit bureaus. Interstate National Dealer Service in New York is probably the adminstrator on the contract so start there by giving their customer service a call. If you are nice to them they will help you out and tell you what you will need to do to get out of the contract, but if you get offensive with them they tend to hold back information. If all else fail you can ask to speak with a supervisor. This is not a legal trap it is very easy to get out of. Good luck.

I do not work for the pre-mentioned company but rather for one of its competitors. So yes I am in the industry and while I do not wish to sound like I am defending this company itself but the industry as a whole. My friend your wife is not some victim of a scam but actually did the appropriate thing by protecting her vehicle. While you may be upset now because you dont know anything about it, the truth is when you are driving your wifes car in the middle of the winter and then it suddenly comes to a grinding halt cause of a water pump---Im sure your going to be glad you have a warranty at that time. All day I talk to people like you that believe that cause they have a payment coming off of their credit card, THROUGH AN ESTABLISHED FINANCE COMPANY, that they are getting ripped off. The company that your wife is with is one of the lagest warranty brokers in the US, its been around for the better half of two decades, it advertises on T.V.--- dont know to many scams with a record like that. Again, just do your research, dont believe everything you read on the internet, and excuse the spelling.
