Merchants' Credit Guide hit me with basically the same letter it sent to the previous poster, except the creditor and amount were different.

It claimed I owed them $1,664.82 on a debt from their alleged client Pinnacle Credit Services and originated from Saks & Company. They stated I could either 1) pay 50% now, 2) make 3 paymetns equivalent to 70% of the amount or 3) make a monthly payment affordable to me. Like others that had reported this company, the letter was signed by Ken Hughes.

There were several red flags in its letter. First, it used my nick name which I never used for my bank/credit accounts. Second, I have never purchased anything from Saks & Company. This company sounds like the famous department store Saks Fifth Avenue but isn't. I think Merchants' purposedly uses names similar to well-known merchants in hope of their victims had actually dealt with those merchants and thought they had unpaid balances.

Another poster suggested us to write IL's AG. I suggest also email consumer advocates like Tom Martino and hope they can put some heat on this cheater.

Chung.....MCG are JUNK Debt buyers..

#2Consumer Suggestion

Chung, Merchant's Credit Guide buys debts that are up to 25 years old. The debts MCG purchases are always past SOL for collections. They couldn't validate one of these debts if they had too. The oter names listed are just other JUNK DEBT buyers or other collection agencies. At this point they have absolutely no idea who the original creditor was or what the debt was for. I always demand validation as well as an account history for purposes of determining SOL. The only validation I accept is a certified copy of the original of something I allegedly signed. They hate this. Then they go away.
