Real companies just don't work that way. It's almost always illegal. A legitimate employer will front the costs of background checks, etc. when they hire someone. If a company is serving as a recruiter or agency for employer(s), they are not allowed to take money from the applicants. The employer pays the recruiter, usually a commission for each qualified employee that gets hired. Realize that these crooks now have your "job application" with all sorts of personal information on it. Keep a lookout for identity theft. Even if they don't do that, taking everyone's $45.00 was a major scam that the state AG should be told about. They may be difficult to find until they show up in the next town.
