My 74-year old mother noticed a charge on her Chase Mastercard for $139.95 to MWI Homework Plus, Stamford, CT. I called the credit card company on 11/17/03 and she gave them permission to discuss her account with me. We filed a dispute of the charge because even the credit card company claimed they had no telephone number for this place. I called information in Stamford, CT myself and they told me there was no company listed by that name in or around the Stamford area.

The dispute paper arrived for us to fill in, which we did and mailed on 12/03/03. This morning (12/04/03) I called Chase Mastercard again and this time, all of a sudden, a number could be found (877-844-1326). I contacted that number and after a verbal back and forth with "Alia", my mother's account is to be refunded $139.95 within 2-3 business days.

I asked "Alia" how they could run such a scam on people across the country and she said my Mom had authorized the transaction...NOT! My mother told me that for days she was receiving calls, sometimes two a day, from this company and she kept telling them she was not interested and to please do not call. "Alia" claims that the person who had called her was given authorization to charge her account...again NOT!

I asked to speak with the solicitor myself and was then transferred to a supervisor, "Cornelia". She said she put in an order for the audio of the call and that I would be contacted within 2-3 weeks to listen to it.

I then called Chase Mastercard to discuss what had transpired with this place and was told that they could not discuss my mother's card with me without her permission. I explained that permission was given on 11/17/03 and even gave them the confirmation number given to me. They told me that they have five call centers and could not confirm the number! Real organization! I then asked to speak with a supervisor and was transferred to "Mr. Marshon" (sp). He gave me the same line that he could only answer yes and no questions about the account, but nothing definitive. I then asked him how he could deny me information, but place an unauthorized transaction on her account!

Her account WILL be paid in full, minus the bogus charge, and closed within the next 48 hours and we'll take our business elsewhere!
