Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I informed law enforcement officers who visited me , that a friend of my wife for over 20 years approached me about cashing one of her personal checks that she did'nt want her husband to be aware of. She wrote me the check and i gave her cash. we did this two or three times and in total she gave me 500.00 dollars for my time. Before cashing these checks I asked my bank (BANK OF AMA) if this would be ok, the banker said no problem its done all of the time. I being told that the money that my wifes friend had was stolen from NCO, I had no wonderstanding of that fact, in any case her chesk from her personald account that was fine, no problems at all, then I hear from NCO saying I did something wrong!!! What did I do? wrong. Please help I don't know what to do! and i can not afford a attorney, i am a disabled person liveing on social security.

Nco will fasely accuse anyone of anything they are low down dirty crook's. Just complain to the PA attorney general complaints. The more complaints agaisnt NCO the better It does not matter how many fines NCO has they have lot of money to waste, so they will continue to fasely accuse new people on things. Nco will never stop they should be shut down complaints keep coming on this site, nco has been sued nuremous but they still continue there crooked ways.

A different read of the situation.

This reads different to me. Seems that someone stole money from NCO and the wife's friend is implicated. Remember? The police came by? It's seems likely to me that NCO may think the OP's wife is somehow involved or "in cahoots" with who ever stole the money from NCO. I agree that such speculation on the part of NCO doesn't entitle them to attempt to offer a "pay us and we'll forget about it." Since the police have already been to the OPs home, I would contact the police and have them notify NCO to back off. If nothing else, NCO could be prosecuted for hampering an ongoing investigation if the police are still investigating this "stolen money." Another suspicious statement by the OP is this: "Before cashing these checks I asked my bank (BANK OF AMA) if this would be ok, the banker said no problem its done all of the time. "" This read to me more as though someone endorsed some NCO checks and then asked the OP's wife to cash them (using a third party in the fraud.) Who would ask their bank if it's OK to cash a personal check? I don't think these were personal checks at all. And who gives someone $500 bucks for cashing a "personal" check. This almost sounds like the "nigerian check "scam except it's NCO checks. I don't think that NCO is contacting the OP in the sense that they are operating as a debt collector. I think NCO is trying to determine who was envolved in the fraudulent use of NCO checks or NCO check forgeries.

Your first mistake was speaking to a bottomfeeder! NEVER DO THIS!!

Nick, First of all, you should NEVER speak to any debt collector [bottomfeeder] on the phone! There is no reason to ever do this. Demand they stop calling, and demand they put everything in writing. Second, I have absolutely no idea where the connection is between you cashing a check for your friend, and what business that is of NCO's or even how they would know about it. There is no connnection here. Totally separate issues. And, nothing illegal. NCO are true BOTTOMFEEDERS. They are JUNK DEBT BUYERS and SLEAZY debt collectors of the worst kind. They are the NUMBER 1 violators of the FDCPA. They have paid the largest fines in history to the FTC and have made numerous "settlements" to the State of PA where they are HQ'd. You don't need an Attorney as you have clearly done nothing wrong according to your report. And the fact that you are disabled and living on SS is irrelevent here. However, they may need an Attorney if you play your cards right. It is illegal for any debt collector to use intimidation tactics, including the threat that you have violated the law, etc. Immediately go to FTC.gov and file an online complaint, and send a copy to the State of PA, Attorney General's Office as they have ongoing cases/investigations against NCO. Don't get mad, GET PAID!!
