Next Step is a 3/4 house which promotes itself for addiction recovery.  They claim to help you in your legal situations, put you up in a safe housing situation, talk about supplying bus passes for transportation, drug testing, outpatient and inpatient care, etc.  In actuality, they tell you that they accept state insurance but there are no state beds available so in order to hold your spot, you will need to pay them somewhere around $800 non-refundable dollars and sign up for welfare because you are also responsible to pay for your food and toiletres.  You will be sharing a two bedroom apt. with 3 others in the middle of a drug ridden area of Pittsburgh called McKees Rocks.  You will have to pay for a bus pass which costs somewhere around $90 per month because you will need transportation to meetings.  If you do not oblige the rules, they will force you into rehab and if you refuse, they will tell your PO that you tested positive.  The CEO is a fast talker, he tries to over talk everyone and make it sound like he was a former addict and he is a miracle worker.

Well, I'm here to tell you that I'm not an addict, I'm a mother of an addict who, out of desperation, called Next Step.  I got the information on this place from a friend whose son was in the program.  They told me they would send someone to my sons hearing and have him released to their program.  Everything was covered by his insurance.  First LIE!!! They sent a guy who looked drunk to my sons hearing, he was released into the program.  We were called in immediately and told about the costs.  The cost was twice as much as my mortgage was per month.  They moved him into a "s***hole" apt. in an even "sh*ttier" area on the 2nd floor.  They didn't even have laundry on their premises.  When I wasn't watching the CEO flirt and playfully banter with the girls in the program, he was loudly trying to b******* me and overtalk me just like a salesman would do.  After my son was in a building where drugs were eventually found and several people tested dirty along with a few overdoses, we got him out of there.  Oh and for the record, the guy who initially told me about the program who was told his son was doing wonderfully there - he buried his son two years ago.  They found him dead on a couch at Next Step.  The people there were nice enough to call the family to let them know their son was dead.
