Took delivery of a brand new 2015 Nissan Altima, 2.5 SV on December 2, 2014.  This vehicle was leased thru a Nissan Dealer located in Washington, Pa and this is my 5th Altima I have leased via this dealer.  When I arrived home I noticed a rather unusual burning smell from the vehicle which I did not notice when I test drove the car and after driving the car for 403 miles I determined this vehicle was not getting the EPA/DOT fuel ratings which for this vehicle are 27MPG, City and 38 MPG, Highway.

This vehcle is used 95% plus of the time on the highway therefore I should be averaging very close to the 38 MPG, Highway.  The car has an 18 gallon capacity tank and if you do the math I got about 22 MPG.  I called the dealer and spoke to the Service Manager and he told me these Nissan products need to accrue at least a 1000 miles before you begin to see the EPA/DOT mileage ratings of 27/38!  I also had communication with the dealer sales manager who told me there is a 1000 mile plus 'Break-in' period and I would have to be patient until I racked up at least a 1000 miles or more.

I took the car in this past January to have the vehicle diagnosed for the very poor MPG and a SULFUR ODOR however I was told no problem was found.  The mechanic suggested I try another fuel station and he also commented that gas was now 'CHEAP" so why be concerned!   I then contacted NISSAN USA in Tennessee and I spoke with a person by the name of TOM!   When I asked for his last name I was told NISSAN USA does not give out their last names because of Internet harrassment!   Imagine that!   I have to supply my full name, address, etc, etc but the Nissan 'reps do not!   After several phone calls and emails to both the dealer and NISSAN USA I was informed by 'TOM' of Nissan USA that the selling dealer would no longer service my car because they contend they cannot help me.

I suggested to TOM at NISSAN USA that NISSAN buy the car back since they cannot determine the cause of the very poor MPG and I even took the car to another Nissan dealer who did confirm there is a problem however they need the car back again to run more test.  I was informed several days ago by TOM of NISSAN USA that NISSAN will not buy the car back. REALLY?  I already knew they were stalling me and wasting my time so this decision came as no surprise.  I spoke with another REP from NISSAN USA who apologized for the treatment I am receiving and assured me NISSAN will do everything in it's power to correct this cars problem.

NISSAN has a sign in it's dealers showrooms and here it what it states:   THE TREATMENT YOU RECEIVE IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE VEHICLE YOU OWN. ALL OF US AT NISSAN PROMISE TO WORK 'TIRELESSLY' TO EXCEED YOUR EXPECTATIONS.   I have emailed the CEO of NISSAN USA 'TWICE' with no response!  As I write this report I am averaging about 23 MPG (highway) and before I can even invoke the lemon law I have to take the car back for further diagnosis one more time.  I have extensive fuel cost, unnecessary wear and tear and way more miles on the car than I would if it was preforming and delivering the 27/38 MPG rating, which it is not because it is simply a LEMON.  If you are considering the purchase/lease of a NISSAN product I suggest you think twice and if you are considering the Nissan dealer located in Washington, Pa I would strongly recommend you go elsewhere IF you still decide to risk getting a LEMON like me and remain ignorned by both the DEALER and NISSAN USA.

Nissan USA maintains it's silence regarding the false MPG claims of the 2015 Altima.  I now have over 4000 miles registered and my highway MPG remains far below the advertised ratings.   Nissan USA told me Nissan is not responsible for the advertised MPG ratings.  Nissan lays the blame on the EPA and the EPA advised me that Nissan is indeed rreponsible for what they advertise.    Just today I received the recall notice for the faulty hood latch.  I have known about the faulty hood latch for about a month and just this past week I had this overated POS at the Nissan dealer for a mileage test which was not done despite my leaving this lemon scrape can with them for a week.  They could have done the recall but they did not bother.  The car was returned filthy and I was without a car for a week while nothing was done.

What are my options?   I see no relief from my states lemon law, and Nissan has ignorned my pleas for assistance.  I may run the risk of causing damage to my excellent credit and stop paying for this Garbage can called a car made by NISSAN!.  Oh yes,  SISSON the dealer where I got this Lemon from had the nerve to email me and suggest I buy another POS from them.  Buyer Beware.  This car company has no intention of addressing legitimate customer concerns like mine.  Buy or lease a Nissan product and you will experience absolute grief.  NISSAN=LEMON!
