First off this is to report egregious misrepresentation of products and services by the Occidental Vacation Club, which was supposed to be a hassle free vacation membership. What they sell you in person and what you are actually buying are very different so buyer beware. Below is our story

In July of 2011 we visited Playa del Carmen Mexico and while there we were approached by a car rental salesman who offered us a free 1-day car-rental and a free snorkeling trip if we went to hear about the Occidental Hotels.  On the 8th of July we bought a membership into the Occidental Vacation Club, membership category First Club in Playa Car Mexico. We have yet to use any part of our membership and until the date of this letter we are up to date on all
payments. After many phone calls we have come to realize that what we understood we were buying, and what we actually bought are very different.

After paying thousands upfront for what we thought was one week a year in any of the Occidental properties with added bonuses there in, such as additional "bonus time" and an extra week a year. But when we called to use our week we were made aware that claims and promises made by the sales staff were all false.

Turns out we would need to pay an all-inclusive fee, per person per night! On top of the money we are already paying in order to use our purchased week. We can't just stay in the condo and not pay for food.  Furthermore if you go to the Occidental First Club website, http://www.occidentalfirstclub.com/, no mention is made of the mandatory all-inclusive fee and the second bullet point under First Club Privileges it says Superior All Inclusive Convenience and Value implying that there is no extra fee!

We were told "This isn't a timeshare" you can certainly book any day of the week you want. We cant book our unit book any time other thanSaturday to Saturday, and if we do then we need to pay extra to stay in hotel rooms which are not our condo accommodations, furthermore, if we use less then the 7 days in our week then we forfeit the other days in our week.

All I say is avoid avoid avoid. We are going to file every report under the sun we want out of this contract and to get as far away from this shady company as possible.

If you want to read more about them then here's another thread from Tripadvisor http://bit.ly/xEWtcH

It is always best to hire someone skilled to do so, unfortunately in most cases these companies dedicated to cancel timeshares usually cheat for the second time to their customers since they are vulnerable and desperate. If you are thinking of hiring them you just have to make sure you do not have to make any payment upfront ... I found these articles that speak precisely about this, you should read them, that might help you to resolve many doubts:

Timeshare industry is known for being very susceptible to scams; however, timeshare properties are still a successful business for most resorts. In these times of rough economy, it is important to take care of our money, and timeshares are not in the way to achieve the financial security that we are all looking for.

"Hi Mrs. Victoria

It is very unfortunate that happened to you, here at Occidental Vacation Club we care about our costumers and we would like to help you get through this.

As of today, we serve more than 23,000 happy families who have entrusted to fulfill their vacation needs year after year. The club has been serving ever since 1993 while winning numerous prizes and recognitions within the hotel industry.

First of all, ovc t's not considered a timeshare, it is a destination club. What we sell is the acces to any of our available properties, not an specific unit.

Second, any day arrivals are valid when referring to the bonus time usage, nonetheless, the owner weekend has to be from saturday to saturday so we can keep track of full weeks, so we (the vacation club) can pay the hotel. That's a key rule that's stated in our contract and terms.

Third, when referring to the "first club privileges" and "superior all inclusive convenience and value", nowhere in the contract is stated that is "free of charge", it is stated that there's a mandatory all inclusive fee that everyone has to pay in order to enjoy the amenities without charge. There is a charge the owner has to pay in order to have it all inclusive.

We would like to talk to you in order to solve your problem, it would be very helpful if you can send me your info to [email protected] and we'll get in touch with you as soon as we can.

Thank You and have a nice day
