The fact that you had to bridge the terminals on your soleniod to start the vehicle shows there was nothing wrong with the starter. The problem was a bad solenoid, and they knew that.
Solenoids are only a few dollars plus a few more to install them. Starters are bigger ticket items, and more money is to be made by selling them.
Any kid that took auto shop in high school knows this. They are ripping you off.
