PEPIN SPANISH RESTAURANT Dinner included a pitcher of sangria, appetizer and dinner for 1 couple or 2 couples, 3 PEOPLE CAME TO DINE. Scottsdale, Arizona
I came with a coupon from Groupon.com for dinner up to $108 that included a pitcher of sangria, appetizer and dinners for 1 couple OR 2 couples. The coupon was worth UP TO $108. The waitress said that youll get a FREE sangria, FREE appetizer and FREE dinner for 1 couple and said that since I was NOT a couple Id have to pay for the dinner and tip (1st rip off). She, then, offered two different sizes of sangrias, and said, you can have whichever you want for FREE, that we can choose either size (2nd rip off). Once we got the bill, a big surprise came with it!!!
The appetizer $9
Couple dinners $37, $37 ((2 Sarzuela de Mariscos plates, NOT very tasty)
My dinner $23 (Salmon en Salsa Verde, great dish)
One flan $7 (very small portion but good)
One Pitcher of Sangria $32 (3RD rip off)
Tax $13.49
TOTAL $158.49
COUPON discount $101 from the bill (4th rip off-it was supposed to be $108)
Balance $57.49
Tip $28.53 (20% of $145)
TOTAL DUE $86.02 ($86.02 plus $40 for the coupon, total cost for the FREE dinner was $126.02)
When I told the waitress why it was so high, and that I should only pay for my dinner at $23 and the flan at $7 plus tip, she took the bill back to the owner. I saw Rafael, the owner, walking around with the bill. Then a younger guy came with an attitude He said that the pitcher of sangria was the largest size and that the appetizer we chose was the most expensive one in the menu. I told him that the waitress gave us the choice of sangria sizes and that she kept saying that we could have ANY appetizer we wanted He kept on saying I am not going to argue as to making sure I didnt say anything else!!! The only thing I said to was I am not going to argue with you either however, I have been coming to Pepin for over 15 years and will make sure to tell everyone about this rip off.

You misread the Groupon..

- It appears they have several Groupons and the above is the current one. However, the others all seem to be around the same percentages. So it seems that you bought the Groupon that was only good for TWO. If you wanted it for FOUR you would have had to pay the higher price for the Groupon.
