... in their own words Here is more testimony taken from a recorded interview with another former employee of Pizza Hut Apache Junction, also victimized like so many others. We had to attend mandatory meetings which we were never paid for, where we were made to sign things. As delivery drivers, we were always made to pay for shortages in the register. Like on a Friday night, between the five or six drivers, we would be made to pay for like 60 bucks or something. It was so obvious that Rick Carter was taking it! I think Rick was starting to catch on that everybody was thinking he was the one doing it because nobody else was ripping it off because we all know we'd get burned on it, plus there's a camera there, and guess who knew how to turn it on or off. I cant even begin to tell you how filthy everything was, the floor was always wet and there was oil all over it. I remember going around to clean out the mouse traps. Of course, before the inspectors came we had to get rid of the mouse traps. The manager Rick was working there pretty much all the time but he was never there anyway. Like he would get a call and then he would say, "I have to go to the bank." Where all the drivers park their cars there were all of these other people pulling up all of the time, and nobody knew who the hell they were. Before they used to lock the back door when they used to go in and out to see Rick. They were always hanging out in the parking lot and everybody would be looking for Rick... we're out of this we're out of that, where's Rick, he's out in the parking lot- oh he went for a drive with somebody.. .it's like yea, I don't know what your doing bud..I have never seen anybody giving him money or handing over drugs. But it was dark out there and it wasn't that well lit in the parking lot and there were all kinds of scum-bags coming and hanging around. It don't take much to figure it out. I have brought Rick to his house 2 or 3 times a night, many times I'd have to sit outside for 15 or 20 minutes waiting for him to come out. On Friday nights I probably had just lost 10 bucks in tips doing this for him, the whole time being paranoid wondering what if Rick's being watched, am I implicating myself being here waiting out in the car all the time like this? I knew police officers used to come in and pick up pizzas and not pay for them or anything. I knew that Rick and his mom knew the police department. Something was going on when they were trying to buy that land for building a new Pizza Hut. I don't know if it was Rick or Betty that said to me "you notice that the cops haven't been here lately?" because so and so owns the land and there's something with the police department, and there is something with the land they're trying to buy, and they were instructed not to come into Pizza Hut, and it's a big political f**kin thing. I really don't know what the deal is with all that but they weren't coming around for a while. I even got stuck doing dishes toward the end there while they didn't have a dishwasher. See, they couldn't keep employees. Either they were girls and Rick was trying to hit on all of them, that's one reason they couldn't keep help. They'd get all these phone girls and they would work there a week or two and they'd quit because they didn't want to put up with Rick. They were all like teenagers and he's like 37 years old! I mean their parents were there! They weren't even old enough to drive! I've seen angry parents in there plenty of times. Yelling, talking to Betty..etc.. They would also lose employees because they would just get sick of the bull, and all the schedule problems and quit. Work schedules were constantly changed and not available. I worked there for over a year, maybe even two years all together, and they knew what days I could not work. I'd get a call from Betty saying "why aren't you at work?" I'm not supposed to be working today, you tell me? I left working for Pizza Hut because they could never seem to get it through their head about scheduling. They didn't even have a schedule for like two weeks when I left.
