Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Ten years ago (1998), while trying to buy our house, our loan officer said that there was something in my credit report (an unpaid loan with City Furniture) that was preventing me from getting my loan to buy our house. So I searched high and low to figure out what, who and where and how to clear this out. The alleged loan was not mine (never even been inside such store), but my brother's and my father had co-signed for him. My father and I share the same first and last name but not the middle and of course the social security number is different. I proved to the collecting agency at the time with proper documentation that this was not my debt. Thus, they took it out of my credit report. Problem solved, right? No!

Ten years later (2008) I get the honor to be harrassed by Portfolio Recovery Associates by calling me or sending letters. I already told them about the mix up back then, that it was cleared from my name and all that nice stuff. My brother had to file bankrupsy and my dad is in and out of hospitals lately with a measly pension. So, since they cannot collect from them, they hatched the fine idea of trying to collect from the next person available, even though that person wasn't even in the States at the time but on deployement somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. Apparrently they are either completely d**n or they just don't care and try to squeeze money out of anybody. And if you ask them to prove to you what they accuse you of, they go mute and hang up.

Now I have to prove to them that this is not my loan, never was. Good Lord, I was on the ship with military orders at the time the loan was taken out. Why should I have to go through all this again? They are only good at threatening. They are nothing but bullies. Imagine if you actually do owe them money.

I read a lot of similar reports about this company in this site and it's amazing what they will do to collect even though the debt is not even remotely connected to you.

THEY have to prove to you that it is yours. Send a debt validation request by mail certified return receipt required. Also check your credit report again to make sure they aren't trying to screw tyou there again.
