Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I had an ADT security system installed in  my house.  I had 3 days to cancel without a binding contract.  I did that.  They then sent another man to my house to "rewire and re-install it so it would work properly."  I explained that if it did not work, I would have it removed, but I would give them the chance to try to fix it.  Alfonso credited me the monthly amount and agreed.  Since then, the system has not worked, beeps repeatedly for no reason, is either off-line or non-effective.  I have spent more time on the phone than I'd like to admit, trying to get help from them, to no avail.  It is a continuous chain of ignorant people interrupting you, treating you poorly and hanging up on you.  Then, on top of all of this, they charged my account without my permission.  I specifically told the woman that she did not have permission to charge my account because the system has not worked for 2 months.  She explained that they charge a month ahead of time.  I explained that the system did not work, and yet, she charge me anyway.  I have since disputed the charge with my bank and cancelled my debit card.

Today, I spent 2 hours on the phone trying to get ADT to cancel my account and set an appointment to remove it, so that I may begin to fix all of the holes they drilled in my walls, from rewiring it.  The only response he gives me is that another rep will be out and if it can't be fixed this time, they will let me out of the contract.  It's the same thing everytime, but you get nowhere.  They are a completely dysfunctional, incompetent, worthless company with poor service and representatives.  The only effective person I have dealt with is Ron Kitchl, whom rewired it the 2nd time.  It is the system that doesn't work, not the installer.  I would advise every person I meet:  DO NOT EVER GET AN ADT SECURITY SYSTEM!  THEY ARE COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT AND ARE GOING TO RIP YOU OFF!!!  They are still actually trying to hold a 3 year contract over my head, to make me feel obligated to keep the system.  Today he offered me another 2 months, stating that he would send me a check for $89.  My attorney will now be getting involved, but I wanted to post for everyone before that point.  GOOD LUCK IN YOUR SECURITY SYSTEM SEARCH!

Unfortunately you signed a 3 year agreement with the authorized dealer for monitoring services without doing your homework on this particular company's reputation. You shopped price over quality.

Your window for cancellation expired after that 3rd day. At this point your best bet would be to get the local news channel involved rather than an attorney.

Your lack of knowledge regarding the law in regards to cancellation has put you into a precarious legal situation. Don't feel bad because unless you're an attorney you shouldn't be expected to understand that law. Most courts of law will side with the alarm dealer, and since the alarm dealers know that they don't fear your attorney contacting them.

If you want to be free of the contract you need to wage this battle in the court of public opinion. The last thing an alarm company, especially one that only sells systems over the phone and uses private contractors to install, wants is bad publicity.

Save your money, and save your credit! Call the local consumer advocate and ask for help.

Don't allow companies like this to sully your opinion on the life safety industry. For every big name mass marketer that offers cookie cutter, low-end alarm systems there are thousands of highly qualified local vendors that do business the right way.

I know many installing companies in your area that are excellent choices when it comes to protecting life & property.

Note to anyone else reading this consumer's complaint:
I have retired from the security installation field. I spend my time consulting consumers regarding security and finding reputable companies to receive quotes from.

Consumers should get as many opinions as possible, and combine the good suggestions from all parties so the end result is perfect for that application.
Security companies require long-term contracts so take your time in choosing one.

Security systems, if installed properly, will save lives! Consumers spend more time researching the purchase of a color television than they do in researching the purchase of a security system. The color television won't save your life.
The security system can save your life. Education is key. Arm yourself with knowledge.

Don't buy a system based on the price. Buy a system based on the quality. Think of a parachute. If you're jumping from a plane do you want the cheapest parachute strapped to your back or the best quality parachute strapped to your back?

Good luck to the OP and good luck to everyone else.
