On 3-8-12 I was in Ca. I live in Az.My 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 had the transmission line come undone where it connected to the radiator. All transmission fluid was lost.I had my truck towed to purrfect auto for repair.Frank, who is the owner/manager informed me that my transmission was burned up.He asked what I wanted to do so I spoke to my husband.

I went to purrfect auto the next day with my father and told him to go ahead with the repair. There was a service history for the truck at purrfect. He informed me that the check engine light, which was on, was due to an emission problem. He said
the check engine light (emission) would be fixed.

He also told me that purrfect would warranty the work and that there was a purrfect auto in Mesa Az which would do the work if the check engine light came on again.I had to pay before any work would be done so I did.Payment was made on 3-9-12.The truck was finished on 3-13-12.

On 3-14-12 I drove back to Az. and my check engine light came on again. I told Frank the next day.He had me disconnect my battery & buy a new gas cap.The problem remained.Frank asked for the mileage of when the check engine light came on.

The truck was fixed on 3-30-12.It was an emission problem with a canister. Frank led me and the Az mechanic to believe that purrfect would warranty and cover the cost. The Az mechanic called for payment & Frank said he would not pay and that he never intended to pay because it (engine light/emission) was not under warranty.Purrfect failed to fix the problem.

I am not trying in any way to discredit your report. But there is no way any mechanic would ever "warranty" that a check engine light will never come on again as the entire emissions system is tied into that light, not just one thing and I am sure this truck has a substantial amount of miles on it.

What makes or breaks your case, is what this Frank gave you a receipt for that he fixed/repaired/replaced etc regarding the check engine light. Was it related to that canister or not? Can you post an image of your work order invoice he gave you?  If all he did was reset your light knowing you were driving out of state and then wanted to leave you holding the bag or the next mechanic then yes.. you have a good case and myself or others will advise of your next steps to be made whole again.  The old "check your gas cap" won't help him in court and it most likely would not even make it to court as he knows he would lose so he would decide to settle with you instead unless in the worst case he stalls until he is out of business.
