WARNING: Do not do business with Rick Tobin, aka R Tobin Consulting.  I recently decided to move from California to New York and begain searching online for affordable moving options.  Ultimately my search lead me to Rick Tobin (R Tobin Consulting) who is a moving broker.  Rick promised to get me a good deal with Mayflower, which is a large reputable name that I felt comfortable with.

On my moving day I expected to see a Mayflower moving van show up in the driveway.  Instead a white truck covered with spray painted graffiti showed up; that should have been my first red flag.  Once our items were loaded onto the truck our estimate went from $2500 to $4000.  And what was supposed to be a "cash on delivery" deal went to $2000 upfront.  After I refused to meet the movers demands (and after a heated discussion) the movers took off with our belongings, stating that we'd never see them again.  We immediately called the San Diego police department and told them what had happened.

A few blocks down the road the SD police department pulled the moving truck over.  As it turns out, the driver didn't have a valid driver's license and the truck was full of violations.  After consulting with us, the police officer gave the driver the option of impounding the truck and writing several tickets -OR- he could return our belongings back to our house at no charge.  At that point we merely wanted our stuff back and had no intention of working with the moving company that Rick Tobin had set us up with.  Obviously, the mover decided to return our belongings back to the house, but instead of moving our items back into the house, everything was off loaded into our front yard.  That left just my fiance and I to return everything back into the house before night fall.

Ultimately we contracted with ABF (the freight company) and everything went smoothly with our cross country move.  (By the way, I highly recommend ABF if you're looking for an affordable option and you're moving long distance.) However, when I contacted Rick Tobin about getting my $300 deposit back (since we didn't use the crooked movers he had set us up with) it turns out Rick was just as shady as the movers we dealt with.  Rick claims it was the moving company who should return my deposit, even though the $300 check that I wrote was made out to R Tobin Consulting and it was Rick who cashed the check.

After speaking with the moving company, they stated that they had received no funds from Rick Tobin and that I should ask Rick to return my deposit.  Again I contacted Rick Tobin and again he refused to return my deposit even though no services were performed.

Long story short, Rick Tobin (R Tobin Consulting) is a crook and I highly recommend that you do not do business with him in any capacity.
