Rent A Center Rip-off Stole money from checking account abused & mistreated Somerset Kentucky
I was looking for some fast furniture that looked decent and found some at rent a center at a good price amasingly it was only 200$ cash price.
It had a couple dirty spots so I asked the employee if I could try to clean the spot before I purchased it and he agreed to let me do so in the store, The spot came out so I bought it.I asked if they took a check and the employee said no but asked if I ad a debit card.
I said yes and so he tried to use it.He scanned it and when the slip of paper came out he said it didn't take it I needed to go get the money out of the bank.
So I did and brought him the cash back. Got my reciept, couch, chair and left. three weeks went buy and I got a letter from the bank stating that my account had overdrafted and there were three bounced checks so my account was -20$ per check fee from checkcare 25$ overdraft charge from the bank and 5$ a day. I couldn't undrstand because I am very careful with checks so I asked for a report.
It turned out Rent A center had taken the $100 off the debit and I had no clue. So I called them. The employee that was there the day I got the furniture was there and I told him the problem and showed him my bank statement. He said "Yeah there was an extra Hundred in the drawer that night I thought maybe it was yours." and so He gave it back and made me sign a receipt that he had given it back.
Then I asked what was I supposed to do about the bounced checks that one wouldn't have bounced had he called me that night and told me He had my money instead of waiting till the bank told me three weeks later he said "That is your problem not ours we gave you the hundred back." UGHHHH!!!!!
I ended up going to court where they didn't care enought to show TWICE.!! and so the judge sent out an order for them to pay all my finances incured due to there goof. After a year later change in managment and employees and TONS of calls with me asking were my money was and People refusing my checks because of checkcare reports, they finally paid me when I threatened to put it in the local newspaper.
FINALLY! Now I don't know if I can trust Rent A Center anymore but would like to get credit started. I am not the bad guy so why do I feel like the only one who took a hit?

REN A CENTER DOES NOT REPORT TO THE THREE MAJOR CREDIT BUREAUS

They DO report, however to Teletrak, which is a database for companies who do check cashing, payroll advances and rentals such as yours. They do not report to the three major credit bureaus on payment history, so dealing with them really will not establish your credit rating. The only exception to their not reporting might be if you skipped with the merchandise, which if you did that in most states, you could be charged with theft by conversion.
