I, like so many others, saw an Ad in the paper for Customer Service, Warehouse and Sales positions, stating a weekly pay of $600.00. The figure was tempting, so I called and made an appointmentfor an interview for a Customer Service position.

I came to my interview, and within two minutes of sitting down and handing over my resume was told they wanted to hire me, but for a Sales positon. I asked what they sell, and was informed that they sell Kirby vaccuums,in homes within a 30 mile radius, and that all of the customer service positions were already filled. Really not wanting to do sales, I asked about the warehouse position, and was told I needed a CDL license. Fair enough. This guy continued to try to sell me on the fact that there was a potential to make a LOT of money, and if I would just come to training, he would show me how. So, hesitantly, I agreed.

I went to training the next week. The same guy who hired me did the training. He showed us the maching, which I was very impressed with. Im not saying the Kirby vaccuum does not work. he sold me on it, there for I was sure I could sell other people, and go home with my weekly pay of at least $450.00. he explained the pay. For every vaccuum you sell(selling proce of 1700.00), you get half of anything over 1000.00...thats $350.00 a vaccuum!! he said we should sell three a week, no problem.

Soon after training, the truth about the way that business came out. First of all, in training we were told that we would never have to drive(you had to take your car, use your gas, with no reimbursment)more than 30 miles. That first week, I was sent to cities 60-90 minutes away, with gas prices at $3.00/gallon. Just starting out at a new job, it's hard to come up with that much money for gas. because I was spending so much time on the road, my day started at 9am and oftem lasted well past 9pm..keep in mind, I was not on hourly pay. I sold three that week, so I should have made at least the promised $600.00 for all my time and effort, right? WRONG! You know how much I made after I spent over a hundred dollars on gas, put a ton of miles on my car, and worked 12 hour days? $75.00!!! Seventy-five dollars for working a 60 hour week is ludacris any way you put it. I spent more than that on gas.

I mentioned this to the owner, Mr. D, and he kept assuring me I'd get better if I worked harder and went to more appointments. The next week, I worked twice as hard and made only $25.00 for a 70 hour work week. They said it was because the people I sold to had bad credit, or cancelled. Im sure they did have bad credit, but to only pay someone spending more than a hundred dollars on gas a week, $25.00, is way out of line.

BOTTOM LINE: The make it sound great and like there is so much potential for money to be made. The truth is THEY make the money off of YOU. This comapny has it worked out so that the employees work for free. They always have an excuse as to why you didnt make comission or bonus, and they conduct very shady dealings. There is a reason the majority of the public HATES salespeople...THEY are SNEAKY and DISHONEST. Don't let this scam happen to you. DONT GET SOLD ON IT!

Note: There was even a week when the owner, Mr.D, just decided not to write anyone a check that Friday. This is NOT legal. I never even recieved my last two paychecks. I made $175.00 in 5 weeks there, and spent much more on gas, not to mention the depreciation on the value of my car for putting all of those miles. DONT get suckered into working for these monkeys for free!
