Who to blame? The scammers? The big corporation who couldn't care less for its customers, who have entrusted them with their data? Or the government who has failed to stop this wildly publicized scam? Same story as the rest: A hefty charge in my AT&T residential bill by SBO-online.org for -can you believe the stupidity?- a Survival Kit???!!!! Called them, and they indicate that my wife signed up to the service... through something like USPrize.com or the like???. We both are Internet savvy and know not to fall in those traps. After threatening with legal action, they offered to cancel the account and refund the charges. We'll see.
I will pursue legal action indeed, but against AT&T for failing in their fiduciary duty towards their customers. When I signed up with AT&T, I didn't write a blank check for them to think that any jerk could claim I owed them money and they would simply, no questions asked, turn around and commit me to pay it. Where is their due dilligence? How come they don't mind who they get in business with? How come they don't hesitate to be the accomplices in scamming their own customers?? If I can't trsut them, I will not give them my business.
