Sears Home Improvement ripoff Shady salesperson(s), managers, trying to ripoff consumers for kitchen cabinets St. Louis Missouri
We recieved a call in November from Sear's Home Improvement services wanting to know if we would like a free in-home estimate for new kitchen cabinets--since we were wanting new cabinets we decided that it couldn't hurt to talk to someone about it.
The two Salesmen arrived at our home around 6:30 and made small talk for about 20 minutes--then they took us through the usual spill about how Sear's is cheaper than all other companies, etc, etc. They then began to measure, and we started looking through materials. Our kitchen is tiny--it is only 10' by 10'. Anyway, we picked out cabinet doors, and countertops. They began to do some calculations and gave us an estimate of $9800 for the cabinets and countertop--I then asked if we could add a glass door to one of the cabinets and the salesman seemed to get a little aggravated because it pushed the price to over $10k he said he liked for it to stay under $10k.
I thought this seemed high but then they went on to say we could save a bunch of money by signing up now, blah, blah, blah. At this time we were very tired it was now after 10:00pm and they were still at our house. So we went ahead and signed with them. They called the credit company and got us approved for $10k but we would have to give them the extra $143 that night--so we wrote them a check.
The papers said we had 3 business days to cancel the order--that night I began to think about how much money it was, and that we should check around for other prices before we make any kind of committment so we signed the cancellation paper and mailed it off--I was afraid that the paper wouldn't make it to the destination (some place in Florida with no phone number) so I overnighted the letter (cost $15)to make sure.
I called a few days later to see if they got the cancellation notice, the guy that answered started asking me why we were cancelling--I told him it was because we didn't get to shop around first and if we wanted them for the job, we would call.
The next day one of the salesmen that was at our house called and left a message on our machine saying that his boss was mad at him for us cancelling--I thought this was very unprofessional.
They were supposed to send us a refund check of our $143 it said it could take 10 days in the paper work. After 2 weeks I started calling, and they said it would be a little longer for the papers to be processesed and told me I would have it the next week--the next week the check still hadn't got there--I called back again and this time the lady said that her boss "forgot" to turn our cancellation in--even after I overnighted the letter and talked to him on the phone too. I was getting really frustrated at this time, We cancelled on November 23rd--we didn't get our promised two-week refund check until January.
We have since went to lowes and picked out a better set of cabinets including two big pantries, a nice countertop and was qouted a price of under $3k--big difference between 3k and 10k. Sear's Home Improvements are nothing more than rip-off artists!! Please do not invite these people into your homes--they will not leave and they'll hold onto your money!!
