Serenity Vista's Boutique Recovery Retreat, Drug Rehab, Codependency, Sober Vacation, Jaramillo Arriba Employing counsellors with less then 3 months clean, (John Derry fully aware of his sexual demons, molestion of a guest that had paid over $10000 . I am astonished to see John and Jane Derry back up in fine form boasting about their counselling skills and selling their services for upwards of $12,000 for a guest at Siesta in the Panama.
John and Jane Derry were formerly affiliated with A Home Away In Kelowna, B.C,
They were shut down there because they initially started breaking the rules by registering their establishment as a bread and breakfast.
I was a former 'guest' of John Derry's for 28 days. It was a very turbulant time in my life so I agreed to go.
During my 28 day stay there, I became acquainted with one of John Derry's counsellors who had only 2 months clean (but he was counselling 'us'?) More about that later.
After 7 days, John Derry left his guests (with no notification) and informed us that he had another skilled 'master' counsellor to take his place for the rest of our $12,000 28 day stay.
Within a day after his departure a massive fight erupted and we will all yanked out of bed at 11:30 PM with the 'chef' and the replacement counsellor who asked to take a vote on a young girl who was struggling with substance abuse) Bear in mind she brought no drugs into the faciilty, she was weaning off a very ferocious substance but my point lay ..why were guests who were paying $12,000 for counselling at John Derry's facility asked to be judge and jury on this poor girl?
My heat bled., Once she was allowed to stay more fights ensured on the recreational days that John Derry had asked his current 'YOGA' instructer to supervise.
Unbelievable!!!!
During my stay, many former guests were also allowed into the property (some using drugs) and there was no timeline as to when they left.
John Derry brought me to tears many times at the breackfast table when he unleased his fury at his guests. Cussing, swearing, calling them <quote> Pieces of s**t"
Worst part of all was the counsellor he hired (again, he had less than 3 months of sobriety) The said counsellor hit on me and enough said. It was molestation. I confided everything in this counsellor and he knew which buttons to press because of that.
I have been in constant contact with his former counsellors (whom have all since quit his former establishment because they believed all that complain about John Derry too.) He couldn't keep consistent employment of any of his counsellors.
John Derry is now operating in the Panama under Serenity Vista's and I must do the right thing and inform any potential 'guests' who are even thinking about attending this facilty, It is NOT worth your money. Please refer to the comments on this site with his former business 'A Home Away'. I have been invited to a class action suit MANY times in the 6 years since I have attended this business but I was not ready! I got well on my own and still am disgusted about their manipulative ways. Statute of limitations has not run out on me yet., and I am stronger now.
I will take care of my own and I urge anyone thinking about Serenity Vista''s to do the same.
