I joined Startups.co a a few weeks ago, it is a site where you can locate investors for your business ideas send them an email and if they are interested they will email you back, the investors consist of Private Equity, Angel Investors, Venture and Capital Bankers.
I signed up for the minimum $59 month, which allows me to send emails to 3 potential investors a day. You can also narrow your searched, I was interested in someone within a 100 mile radius and who invested in Internet based Start-ups. AFter about the 11th day with no one responding I felt it was odd, since my craigslist ad gets me at least 1-3 inquiries a week. I decided to google the names of some of the people I emailed, I picked ones witin a few miles of where I live, and to my surprise, many of these names and companies did not exist, very few where legit and several after checking out their companies where actually on ripp off report, leading the pack Paul Del Barello of United Financial Services.
I called Startups.co and asked them to prove to me the existence of these people and they basically danced around the question that these were not accredited investors as they say in their advertising, they are people who claim to be investors and basically register with Startups.co, and many do nor exist for example Leon Orfman, Luck Apps Brooklyn NY, H Feldman RSI Investments, Freehold NJ, and Azeev Investor Netweb Group, Metuchen NJ. I found no existence of these 3 people or their companies.
I canceled my membership and I may even fight the one month charge of $59 for false advertising.
But my advice to anyone looking for Investors, do your research like I did and find the scammers before they get to deep into your pockets. The World Wide Web is an amazing thing in our life time, unfortunatley it has bought out every snake and con man from every corner of the world, So Do Your Homework.
