This place is a terrifying example of an evil, corrupt institution. George Vilagut is a money hungry, fake, lying sociopath active drug user. Do not trust him, Lana Richards, Stephanie Kouns, or anyone at this company. I worked there from February to August 2014 and I have seen the unthinkable. Here are the facts:

-Lana Richards poses as a doctor for insurance utilization reviews. She is a certified Addiction counselor (CAADE), no medical/psychology degree whatsoever.

-There are several clients that I was made aware of who have been made victims of severe insurance fraud by StepHouse,  they are billing as a hospital for thousands of dollars per day, way above the level of care actually provided.

-on Monday August 4, 2014, George, the founder, was discovered by the former admissions director to be in possession of cocaine. When confronted, he proceeded to fire her, and another employee that same day.

-Wednesday of that week another employee was fired for knowledge of/discussing these events.

-George has been spotted several times by clients and employees with white residue under his nose.

-Other employees were asked to sign a document denying the "rumors" of his cocaine use in order to maintain their employment with StepHouse

-StepHouse requires their House Managers to work over 70 hours per week at a pay rate of $800 per month. I have seen 12 house managers in and out of SHR within 4 months. 5 of them relapsed due to the high stress environment and lack of consideration of their needs. NO ONE GIVES A S***

-They take in clients who are detoxing off alcohol and heroine and put them in a sober living with little supervision and no medical logs. The HM is required to distribute suboxone and monitor them while not getting paid hourly. Very corrupt and illegal.

this place is going down, down, down. It is only a matter of time. If you desire to get sober or work in a functional positive recovery environment, stay as far away from this place as humanly possible. It will suck you DRY.

#4REBUTTAL Owner of company

Fri, October 31, 2014

Hello – this is George Vilagut, the Founder and CEO of StepHouse Recovery, and I am deeply saddened by the defamatory review and accusations posted here by our former employee.  Regardless of whatever she may feel, or however she chooses to express herself regarding myself and my company, I wish her the very best. However, as painful as her assertions are, I’m grateful that I’m also given the opportunity to defend and reassert my integrity and that of StepHouse Recovery.

I’m not sure how our former employee  came to these conclusions about our company, where she gathered these so-called ‘facts’ from, or what her intentions were for posting them. All I can say that EACH of these accusations are baseless and false as they are cruel, and utterly misrepresent our institution from the ground-up.

On the other hand, I’m not too concerned with these assertions – and that’s due to the plenty of positive feedback and praise we receive from our clients, our staff and our advocates. I’m proud to share that—as active participants in our city and county— we have received civic and community awards and nods, including the Public Commendation Award in 2014 from Senator Lou Correa and a Certificate of Recognition from the California Legislature Assembly. We also encourage anyone who would doubt our intentions or actions to reach out to myself or any StepHouse Recovery staff member. Our management procedures and operations are transparent; we would be happy to answer all questions and concerns and in fact, encourage it!
