We bought a Takemi Select 3D AngelTouch 14000 Thermal Wonder at $1,799.95 on Jan 27, 2008 and the message chair was shipped to us on Feb 16. The chair worked ok in the beginning after we assembled it the following weekend. However, we got worried on the sketchy manual with typos and the control panel with reversed "foot" & "back" selection. Because of these red flags, we called the company right away and was assured that the chair, which was manufactured in China, was of good quality.

Unfortunately, our concern turned into reality on March 31. After less than 40 days of very moderate use, the control panel went dark. We contacted the company and they asked us to check connection ourselves. Since there was no loose connection, they sent us a replacement control panel. After his day job, my husband read the email instruction and spent more than one hour on the floor behind the chair to replace the panel. It did not solve the problem, so they sent us the circuit board. We requested to have some serviceman to repair for us but Mike asked us to do it ourselves. He did promise that if this failed, he would ship us a replacement chair. So my husband again worked as their technician and replaced the circuit board and later the micro processor (multiple times), but neither worked.

After every failed replacement, they would tell us that "the manufacturer said that there is one more thing to check ...". But after performing half a dozen replacements, the chair was still not working. Remembering Mike's promise that we would get a replacement chair if we failed to fix the chair ourselves by following email instructions and mailed parts, we requested one on June 23. Yet, he rejected and asked us to check the main power transformer this time. We refused to continue this never-ending self-service. Mike suggestd that we could "have chair brought back to the Takemi Select Service Center for its Free Service. However, the warranty requires that you pre-pay the round trip shipping charges to receive the Free Parts and Service at our facility. For a extremely heavy message chair, I am not sure how much shipping charge this is going to incur and if there will ever be any customer who would choose this option. Moreover, this part of warranty policy that "this warranty does not include any shipping expenses incurred after first thirty (30) days of purchase.* was revised March 2008, more than a month afer we bought the message chair!

All we are requesting now is a replacement chair (of course, a differnt model as we already lost confidence in this product) or send some serviceman over to have the chair fixed. We already spent some much time fixing the chair ourselves instead of enjoying the relaxing message since early April.

Takemi Select product is significantly cheaper than other brands, yet product quality & customer service is very problematic!

and there's more that I have filed complaints with, FL Health Care Administration, Federal Communications commission, and now waiting on the outcome from the Attorney General Bill McCollum of FL. Well, if this isn't enough trouble to go through and still get nothing but lip service from Takemi Select, then I suggest you definitely purchase your product elsewhere. I don't think they care anymore. In fact, in my research I uncovered multiple company's with very similar names. One operated two years ago in CA and now they are gone. Their name was sensaselect. One has to wonder if they plan to pick up and move again and establish a new name?? It's hard for me to believe anything they say as the person who I have been in contact with still uses an email addressed to a former employee named Robert. His name is Mike.

My chair broke down after only having it for 60 days and now again. This time it has been broke down for three months because my back hurts too much to fix it. I have called and emailed and all I have gotten are parts with no instructions. I have used my chair on the most 1 day a week. That's not much for a chair of this cost. It sits in it's own spot on display with the dining room table pushed over so that it has room to breath. It has a surge protector but it never stays plugged in unless it is being used. The handle with the control buttons has also broken in addition to two circuit boards. I'm fed up and talking to an attorney on the 20th unless they get in touch and do something because I work 12-16 hours a day. I need this chair and I don't have the time to play their little game of not returning my calls any longer. I would love a new chair as I have no faith in this one, so much so that my cat has been clawing at it for the last month and I have just let him. I think my cat knows it's a dud as well!

We reveived the full refund and a new replacement 14000. I still requested for this model, since it seems to have more function than other models. Usnavy, sorry to hear about the fibromyalgia. I agree that some of the functions are not working correctly, or maybe too subtle to feel the difference. But so far so good, we are quite happy with the replacement. Thank Lauri so much for her help! Takemi Select will flourish if it can maintain this high standard of customer service.

Janet, I am hoping with the good response you received from Takemi that I will also receive some satisfaction. I have only had my chair for 3 days and it has not been performing right since day one. I have fibromyalgia and the only thing that helps my pain at all is massage. I so wanted and needed this chair. I was hoping you could tell me which chair you ended up with so I would know which one works better than the 14000. Thank you for you help. I will keep posting as time progresses. I just want to be able to have a working massage chair to relieve this pain.

Several days after we filed the Ripoff report, Lauri from the Office of the President contacted us. She was very customer-oriented and promised to replace with a new message chair. Moreover, she promised to credit us with full refund after we return the old message chair (shipping on Takemi's charge). This means that we would have a new chair for free! Yesterday, the new chair came and it works perfect now. We are waiting for the shipping company to send the old chair back. After a couple of months of frustration, finally we get to enjoy the relaxing message again. Thanks to Lauri for her generous support and understanding!

If you search this company name, you will find you are not alone in your problems with Takemi Select. In most of the other complaints, the president of the company eventually responded with his direct phone number. I can tell you that most people who have called, did receive positive results after making this call. It is a real shame you have to go to that point to be a satisfied customer of this company. Filing a complaint on here is a definate benefit. I would STRONGLY suggest you updated this complaint every two weeks until you receive satisfactory results. It seems to really give the company the kick in the pants they need to do the right thing. I really hope that at some point, Takemi Select will learn to fix these problems before someone complains on here. It just makes you wonder that if 10 people had to file complaints, how many more are out there who are unhappy but just don't want to fight for their rights as a consumer?
