I should be old enough to know if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I purchased a massage chair for 599.99 with free shipping. I thought they were the same chairs that Brookstone sold. When it got here, the chair was no where to the quality I was expecting.

On the phone, they told me they have a 30 day money back guarantee.. if I didn't like the chair, all I had to do was ship it back in the original carton. I could use any shipping service I wanted. I just had to get an RMA code from them and write it on the package.

When I called for the RMA code, they told me I had to prepay them for shipping through their shipper for a total of 582.80 before they would issue an RMA number.

Whenever you call to talk to someone, they claim they are not the person to speak to... and you can't get to who you need.

I will say that I spoke to the president of the company and he IMMEDIATELY offered solutions that completely fixed the problem on my end. I can also say that they did EVERYTHING he said they would to make this situation better. I now have one of their better chairs that is of good quality and I would recommend the chair to another consumer. I would suggest to Takemi Select that they change (or change back) their 30 day guarantee to only put the consumer on the hook for the cost of returning the item to their company. If a consumer reads the new 30 day guarantee, it will scare them off from taking a chance on a mail order massage chair.

I have read the whole thread of the complaint as I'm sure many others have. I am glad I came to Rip-off Report because I "was" considering buying a product from this company and now see what could happen if I did buisnees with them and how I could be treated, I also learned about thier "legal" but sneaky 30 day guarantee and of how I would have to pay shipping charges for shipping both ways should I need to return the product for any reason. From what I read in the thread, The supposed shipping charges both ways almost equal the price of the lowest priced chair they offer. This means when they ship the lowest priced chair out, it's real cost is only about half of the purchase price because they pay the shipping and thus means the profit and value of the chair you buy would be half of what you pay?... or was that a fib? ie. the shipping charges both ways? or is it that they get a discount from the shipper in shipping the product out, but in the event of a return no discount applied for the customer? I'll be watching for an update but seriously doubt I will reconsider making a purchase from Takemi Select.

I read Takemi Select's last post and decided to go ahead and call the President. I can tell you that he said all the right things and have offered not only to make it right, they have offered to make it better. It seems like they are taking the proper steps to make me a satisified consumer. I will update this post again once everything is completed, but so far, so good now.

I have already posted how I thought it was strange with some of Citizeny posts sounded like a schill... and then the TV Show with the zip code of Beverly Hills 90210... Well, now I have proof they are using a schill to make it seem like they have support for lying on this site. If you put the name: Citizeny in the search engine... this is THE ONLY THREAD that name is listed on... doesn't it seem a bit funny someone would register on this site JUST TO POST ON THIS THREAD???? Citizeny also ignores the facts that Takemi Select has been caught in a lie.. first claiming they did not change the documents after they quoted their change... then they got busted on that by Robert. Then they attack the posts that support this complaint... They ignore Robert... but accuse Mother Angelica of being their competitor... well, but that name in the search engine... she has commented on FIFTEEN posts... doesn't sound like she just signed up to attack her competetion? Of course, she never has mentioned a company name of the competetion either. I hope this just shows the length of dishonesty that Takemi Select Wholesale Outlet will go to just to lie to the consumer. They now have FOUR complaints filed on this site. I am sure even more consumers will come along with complaints of this company that is only 1 year old.

Interesting... couldn't you think of a better zip code than Beverly Hills 90210? Wasn't that a TV Show?? You would do much better being honest about being a representative of Takemi Select Wholesale Outlet. Actually, anyone who cares to look at the policy from prior to my purchase, will see the return policy only covered RETURN shipping at that time. When this error was pointed out Takemi Select, they then changed the policy. Then they denied that they changed it UNTIL THEY GOT CAUGHT. If they felt I was wrong, then they would not have changed the policy after I complained. Of course, Takemi Select has been caught lying several times on this site... now they have a schill... I guess another dishonest representation. Please note now FOUR people have complained about this company. If I were the only one, then you could say it may be me... If there is this many complaints in such a short time... it would lead anyone to believe where there is smoke, there is fire.

Well, here we are again, another day another snide remark from Rich. I feel your pain on being a disappointed consumer (there are alot of us out here), but come on, you OBVIOUSLY did not do enough research. When I went back in the history of the Takemi site on 'wayback machine' it is clear that their warranty all the way back to early 2007 says "We don't cover shipping charges on returns." Their wording was not explicit like it is now, but in my opinion the principle has not changed from what they were trying to convey. That guy Mike tried to make this point but you seem to be ignoring everything he says, actually, you seem to be ignoring logic in general simply to make your bitterness known. Very unprofessional and inappropriate because it leads me and others to question your objectivity and then discard what you have to say. Rich, and other inexperienced online shoppers, in the future you may want to read alittle deeper into any policy you are volunteering to abide by before you start a giant bleeding heart ordeal on the internets. If you don't bother to read the fine print, you don't get to whine about being held to the company policy. Something we all can learn from Rich and his blubbering... dont' blame the seller for your own mistakes. Another lesson I learned here was that complainers swarm in groups... Mother A. definitely seems like a completely uninvolved party who just wants to pour gasoline on the fire. Mother A., you would'nt happen to be in the massage chair business, would you? Perhaps a rival to Takemi? LOL now i get the 'nice to hear from our competition' remark! Hope my suggestions help save everyone here from some future headaches and subsequent belly-aching.

Mike, You are lying right through your teeth! Customer satisfaction is your #1 priority! Are you kidding?? By not honoring your original contract for that nice gentleman you've proven the complete opposite! That's ok though, I'm certain you've lost thousands due to this post. All because you're too cheap to honor the original contract. And yes, you should eat up the shipping charges; or are you that financially challanged as a company? It sure does look like it because you refuse to budge! You'd rather prove a point; try to prove that you're "right" than just eat the charges. Any respectable, profitable company knows that in order to obtain customer satisfaction they may have to "bend over backwards" sometimes for the customer. I'm sure you won't be in business long giving the way you conduct yourself. To the nice gentleman who they've screwed, remember what goes around comes around. Here is the last paragraph of the 30-day guarantee from when I purchased the product: "Thank you for your interest in discovering the wonders and benefits of our products; we promise that they will bring you the relaxation and wellness you have been looking for." I can tell you that at least in 3 cases (based on the complaints filed here) this was not true... and that when the customer complained, the company did not make it right. If your products were so good, you would not have to worry so much about return shipping on the occasional return. If you have such a strong need to have this as your policy, it would lead an educated consumer to believe that you have a return rate to be concerned with.

First, they said they did not change the policy, now that they have been caught, they admit to changing it, but they say they are not liable for errors on their website. Yes, you offered a contract, I accepted the contract... you cannot change it after it is executed without the consent of both parties. You are 100% responsible if you made a mistake in how the contract was written. The original policy only talks about the shipping cost for RETURNING the chair... not the original shipping that was free. Obviously, you felt the policy did not reflect what you meant, which is why you felt the need to change the policy after my complaint. I can tell you that I would not have agreed to the terms that you changed to, and do not consent to the amended contract that was attempted after the deal was completed. For anyone who has bothered to read this entire complaint... if your in the market for a massage chair, you want to make sure the massage feels good to you. If it cost you as much to return the chair as it originally costs, is it something you would want to take a chance on? If they felt the chairs were so good, they would not feel the need to include this clause in their 30-day guarantee. Keep in mind, they were actually implying that I was telling a falsehood about their policy until they got caught in a lie themselves. If they get caught lying once, what else are they lying about? Mike, All you have to do is stand up and be a man of your word with the original polciy. Agree to give me back all my money, and I will ship you back your chair. The company & customer going back & forth regarding when the wording was changed; it's confusing however as a buyer, I myself will never buy from this company. For them to make such a big deal out of paying for shipping fees proves to me that they are not a company I would want to do business with. Regardless of who is right & who is wrong in the "legal" sense, any reputable company would do the right thing by the customer & just eat up the darn shipping charges! Are they that hard up for a profit that they'll go through all this instead?? Whatever happened to the customer is always right? If you use the "way back machine" at web.archice.org you can see that the 30 day guarantee document WAS CHANGED to include a statement that the customer would be charged for shipping TO and FROM the customer on any return. The question now is WHEN was the document changed. If it was after the chair was ORDERED then it is not legally enforceable and the customer has good grounds to sue. Someone at Takemi should brush up on the UCC and basic contract law. Sure, they can change their policy whenever they wish, but that doesn't mean it's enforceable on a customer who has already ordered the product and therefore couldn't agree to a change that wasn't made as of the time of sale (time of contract.) Good luck.

I purchased an item and was told one thing... when I found the quality inferior, I asked them to honor the return policy they told me... they changed the policy after my purchase and want the change to be what they do. Yes, I do have an axe to grind... anytime someone cheats me, I get mad. If you choose to purchase from this company, that is your choice. I would strongly suggest you look at 3 different people who have filed complaints since the end of August and then decide if it is worth the risk.

Enough with the rhetoric! Any responsible, conscientious, consumer out there can see that this company is not a scam. I mean, why take the time to address a concern on RipOff Report of all places if you have something to hide? Their website is legit, and when I called to ask questions about the chairs their people were polite and knowledgeable. Just from browsing thru and reading this "smear campaign"-style garbage from Richva, it is obvious to me that he is out for some good old eVengence on a perceived wrong. There are millions of people like him out here on the WWW, and I usually call them 'griefers', 'trolls', or such (usually up to no good). Let's be objective. They don't have the greatest, most expensive massage chairs on the market, but I am shopping for one right now and Sharper Image wants me to pay like $3500 for a good chair. I have copies of the old and new return policy... the old one did not say anything about me paying for what was originally free.... as your change now says. By changing your documents after I filed my complaint, you are in fact, admiting at least it was poorly written. I also said Brookstone had NO COMPLAINTS ON HERE ABOUT THEIR MASSAGE CHAIRS.... I see you are skillful at the art of twisting. My point about the insurance policy is valid... if they make changes to the contract, they mail you updated copies. You have the option of not staying with them.... but the changes are not retroactive. Again... you have proved my point that instead of trying to make the customer happy when they file a complaint, you only try to tell them why they are wrong. Not very good customer service. You also never responded to the point of how is having someone pay $580+ to get a refund of $599 standing behind your product? Actually, I will repeat this for the last time. I called and confirmed PRIOR to ordering with your "helpful" sales rep, that if I did not like the chair, I only had to pay return shipping to you. This is what your return policy also said at the time of my purchase (and I do have a copy of the document from the time of purchase). I got the chair and realized the quality was WAY BELOW my expectations and called to return the chair. At that time, is when you decided to add an additional fee and change your return policy. You claimed in here that you had the right to do that. You have ALOT to learn about contract law and customer service. Yes, you may change your documents when you desire... however, when a deal is consumated, that locks in what your documents said for that customer. You can only change the for future deals. You made a comment about having an insurance policy or credit card. The same rules apply. When you have an item such as a health insurance policy, you have that contract for 1 year. During that year, the terms and conditions are set. Upon your policy renewal, the insurance company then sends you a new contract with new terms which you have the option to accept or reject. If you gave good customer service, you would not have this many complaints in such a short time span. Keep in mind that this is only the people who have gone to this site to complain. It does not count any other unhappy consumers who just decided to not fight your policies. Now, whenever someone googles your company, all of these complaints come up. People will read how you changed your documents after the deal. Based on this purchase, your 30 day guarantee would cost me over $580 of the $599 purchase. What kind of guarantee is that? Is that a company that stands behind it's product? Your last post said I am the only one... but read the other complaints. If you have 3 in a one month period, I would not be surprised to see even more come up in the future. Most good business people would respond alot differently if they had a complaint filed in a public venue. Instead of argueing with a customer about why you feel they are idiots, a good business person would try to take a negative like this, and turn it into a postive. They would offer the consumer a solution that would make them happy. It would also show future potential customers that you would work to make them happy if they have a problem.... instead of telling the customer that they don't know anything. At this point in the complaint... very few people are going to read the entire thing. They are going to see it as a company that if simply trying to not stand behind the product. When they read that, they will simply find another company to do business with . All you have done with your responses, is made everyone else's points for them.

Mike should become familiar with the UCC and basic contract law. Yes, they reserve the right to change the TOS and warranties. HOWEVER, the terms posted at the time of sale are binding and cannot be legally enforced if they are changed AFTER the time of sale. It appears that the warranties document was amended in August 2007 to include ""the actual costs of shipping to and from the customer will be deducted on any and all returns.*"" The warranties document BEFORE this ammendment does NOT include this statement and can be verified at archive.org/web/web.php So, if this ammendment was posted after the OP ordered the chair, it's not enforceable. The OP would have a very good case for civil court.

To anyone who has read this complaint (and the other complaint filed on this website about Takemi Select)... you can read how they have treated customers who felt they had to go to this measure to try to get some help. I suggest that anyone reading this complaint, ask themselves how they would feel if they had an issue with this company, and this is the way it was handled??? You can also tell the total lack of disregard this company has treated at least two customers. Mike, Your TOS allow you to change the terms... up until a deal has been struck. At that point, it becomes a legal contract. By law, you cannot change the terms after the contract has been executed. To anyone reading this: Below is the original email I received to my email (after the phone call) requesting an RMA #.... please note that this response is not in accordance with their posted policy and earlier comments. It appears they are doing everything they can to avoid having the customer return the product (please keep in mind this chair was less than $600 delivered): Richard, A common thing the doctors do whith their chairs, is use an extra foam padding under the original padding to make it softer on the user. Otherwise, to start the return procedure you will need to do the following: To receive an authorized RMA# and refund. You must First Fax or Mail us a Copy of the Original Receipt. These are Non-Transferable Receipts and Warranties and without a confirmation copy of your original order receipt we cannot issue an RMA# for return or refund. Please Mail to: Takemi Select Outlet 300 North Drive Ste.106 Melbourne, FL 32935 Or Fax to: 321-406-1532 You will need to send the product back in it's original box with its original packing materials. First, I am a male... Yes, I realize I said I would not respond... but here again is proof that they have lied. Good thing I printed off the 30 day Guarantee as soon as I had a problem. They have now changed this document because of the complaint. I do have a hard copy of their document, so I guess it just shows what type of company we are dealing with. If you read their 30 day guarantee, it does say that you have to ship the item back at your expense... using any shipper you want. IT DOES NOT SAY YOU HAVE TO PAY THEM FOR WHAT WAS ORIGINALLY FREE!!!! This was also confirmed with the sales person prior to the order being completed.... now they are changing their tune. Their original email to me was that I had to pay them for shipping BOTH WAYS for a total of $582.80 prior to them issuing me an RMA. Please keep in mind... I am now the second person who has complained on this website in just the past couple of days. That would tend to point to where the problem lies. I am not going to get into a contest with this company on this website and won't respond to anything else they say on here... anyone would would like to see the email from them, please contact me directly and I will be more than happy to forward the information to you.

When I spoke to the sales person prior to ordering, that I would have 30 days to decide if I like the chair. If not, all I had to do was call, and they would give me an RMA number and I would have to ship the chair back at my expense. I was also told I could use any shipping service I wanted to return the chair (all of this was confirmed in their 30 day policy posted on their website). When I called to return the chair (just a few days after receiving it)....They told me I could not call to get the RMA number, I had to email. When I emailed, I was told that prior to being given an RMA number, I first had to fax the receipt to them (that they had originally emailed me)... then I had to call and PREPAY shipping both ways ($582.80) before the authorization number would be issued. ANYONE WISHING TO SEE THIS EMAIL, I am more than happy to share it with them. When I first got this email (I was by my computer when it came in), I IMMEDIATELY called the phone number to the person who sent the email. When I asked for this person, I was told they had left. When I explained that I got an email 30 seconds ago.... all of the sudden, the line started "breaking up"... and was told they just walked out the door. To this day, all I have gotten was emails, but never the returned call. They have refused to issue the RMA number without my prepayment of their shipping charge. I am being forced to seek other avenues to get my funds back. Just notice, I am not the only one who has complained about this company now.
