Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My husband and I registered at Target for our Wedding. After the wedding, we gathered all the gifts from target that we wanted to return and brought them down to Target in Irmo South Carolina. One item was a Mean Green Vacuum cleaner. Customer service told us w/out the receipt we would be unable to exchange that gift because of the price ($79.99).

Customer Service then told me to get the receipt from the person who bought the gift and come back. I tried to explain #1 they live in FL, #2 the whole reason for the registry is so that people don't know if you return their gift. Finally, a Manager came over and stated she would return it, but for $69.99 not the gift price of $79.99. I had no choice, considering the gift was something I really did not want to keep. So, I went and found some items to exchange for my return.

When returning to customer service, the clerk rang everything up told me I owed her $5.75, I wrote a check, then she looked at me and laughed saying you know what, rip up your check I owe you $5.75. She then hands me a gift certificate for $5.75 and tells me there's no way I'm getting cash back. So, there is $10.00 plus another $5.75 (because I will never want to go to your store again) Target made money from me registering for my wedding. I'm beginning to wonder if that's the whole reason they want people to get registered w/ there store. Also, the lady at the Customer Service desk was extremely rude.

Also, after speaking w/ friends who bought gifts there, they had mentioned no one ever offered any kind of gift reciept (the kind w/ only the sku not the price)and no one ever recorded the gift was bought which lead to a lot of duplicate gifts, that they knew would be returned for a ripped off price.

I tried several times to contact anyone at the home office, but they said it was policy. I will never shop there again. I really belive they make a fortune w/ the returns of the wedding and baby registry.

I shop Target regularly, probably at least 2 times weekly. I'm offered a gift reciept with any purchase, even for a bottle of pop! Also, my neice was just married last July and she registered with Target and didn't have problem one! So, you have several possible scenerios: 1. Without a valid reciept, you have to accept store credit at the lowest offered price for the product. It's policy.( A known fact.) 2. The person(s) giving the gift didn't feel the gift receipt would be needed or wanted and discarded it. (I find it very hard to believe that there was not a gift reciept given.) 3. Just maybe the store (in which the gift was purchased) has poor management and has not trained their employees to offer the gift receipts with every purchase. Therefore not faulting all Target stores. ( This is very possible.) 4. Was the item on the registry in order to be removed and counted for? If so, then maybe the purchaser didn't turn the registry in to the cashier. If not, then how could this be accounted for thru the registry? Any time that I have a need to return an item or exchange one I have not had any problem recieving the money I paid as long as I had a "valid" reciept. I'm sorry that you may have had a bad experience with this particular situation, just keep in mind that you only delt with the one Target store, (whom it sounds like followed Target policy)and not all Targets are bad. And maybe Target is not at fault at all, and that the purchaser of this "Green Machine" is actually the one at fault!

My husband and I shop at Target bi-monthly. We purchase all our household needs at our neighborhood store. My husband always pays for our purchases with his bank card. I have never had a problem exchanging anything we purchase with his bank card. I have 2 choices when I am returning an item to Target, I can use the "gift reciept" that we ask for with every purchase to get a cash refund for the item, or, with the regular reciept I am given the option to replace the item for the right size or color, or, if the item has damage I can get the item replaced, or I am given a credit slip for the full amount of purchase of the item I am returning. I have the choice of using this credit slip to shop at any Target store, or at another major retail store that honors the credit slip from Target stores. I don't see what the problem is here. We have always been given the option of having a gift reciept, each and every time we shop at Target so that returns maybe be made with no hassles. If I want a cash refund for a product that we purchased on my husband bank card, I simply use the gift reciept and I am given a full refund promptly with no hassles.

Target does not rip people off, we are very fair honest retailers, and our return policies are clearly posted throughout the store

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report:

Their email: [email protected]
Their name: Target Employee

Their relationship to the company: Devotee

Rebuttal:
Every purchase that is made through Target automatically prints two receipts, one for the guest and one for the guest to give to persons that they are purchasing gifts for. So if there is no gift receipt then you need to contact the person who purchased the gift for you. Also if they purchased it on their credit card, they can get a receipt that way. Also, as far as items still being on your list when they have already been purchased, when someone comes in to make a purchase off of your list, a
list is printed up for them to see what items you want, they shop, and they are supposed to return the list to the service desk with the items they purchased circled, then those items are immediately removed from the registrants list. Target does not rip people off, we are very fair honest retailers, and our return policies are clearly posted throughout the store, and on your receipt. Be aware of yourself when making purchases!
Thanks!
