Taxi has refused to credit $299.95 back to my Visa credit card for a song-pitching service they offer songwriters that I had signed up for on March 19th, 2018. I asked them several times in emails I wrote and gave them plenty of time to return the money. I recently injured my hand and need surgery and would like my $299.95 returned because I simply cannot use the Taxi service -- a service that screens original artist's musical compositions for licensing for use in film and television. Simple put, my hand is incapacitated; I cannot play my musical instruments to record my songs, at least for the time being. My recent sign-up with Taxi for the cost of $299.95 was a continuation of the same service I had signed up for, and have used, since March 2017. My hand healing will undoubtedly take time due to the initial surgery, as well as the physical therapy I will have to more-than- likely undergo. This is why I want my money back; I'm simply not going to be able to use the Taxi service for at least a year -- maybe more.

I explained my medical situation fully to Taxi. Not only did they refuse my refund request, they even went so far as to ask me for proof of the upcoming surgery by having me send them a copy of a letter from my doctor affirming the surgery -- something I feel is not only outrageous for a business to demand in order to authorize a reasonable refund request, but even possibly illegal due to medical confidentiality laws. It also rudely implies that I'm not being truthful about my injury. Even so, after Taxi asked this, I went ahead and offered to do it, but only after I could have a reasonable amount of time to ask for, and obtain, such a letter from my doctor. As of yet, Taxi has ignored my offer to do this for them.

As of the date of this complaint I haven't filed any legal action against Taxi. However, that may change if they don't refund the money. If I have to resort to legal action in small claims court in California, I will gladly do so, and, in addition to the amount of $299.95, ask the court for Taxi to reimburse all my expenses to travel to, and attend, the court proceedings.

Final Update re Taxi Music

My bank finished their review of my dispute with Taxi Music for the $299.95 payment Taxi wouldn't return me despite having to undergo hand surgery, rendering me incapable of using the Taxi Music service: The bank ruled in my favor -- the $299.95 was returned to me.

Keep in mind, however, Michael Laskow and Taxi DID NOT willfully return my money as I had asked them to. I have never had a company completely refuse to return my money, ever. Most businesses I've worked with have been -- if not in total agreement -- at least understanding and compassionate enough to understand my particular situation.

Having been subjected to this mess for several months now, I must say to all of you aspiring songwriters out there to go for it as best you can, and good luck! -- just beware of Taxi Music in the process. Like me, you may be in store for a fight in getting your money back if something unexpected happens and you can't use your subscription. Apparently Taxi Music doesn't seem to think that hand surgery is enough of an excuse to warrant a refund. Just make doubly sure you want to put that money down, and hope you don't get sick or injure yourself.

In closing, as you can see, Michael Laskow and Taxi Music has not even bothered responding to this Ripoff Report because he knows he "took the low road" and indeed tried to rip me off.

In the end, he failed.

He also knows I'm telling the truth.

Three weeks later and Taxi has still not refunded my $299.95

Update, May 16, 2018: To reiterate my complaint, I asked Taxi for a refund of $299.95 that I paid with my Visa credit card on March 19, 2018 for their 1- year song-submitting subscription. Due to my injuring my right hand just 3 weeks after I signed up -- an injury that required surgery -- and the fact that I can't use their service because I can't play my keyboard and guitar instruments until I regain use of my right hand, I asked Taxi on April 20th -- a month after signing up -- for a refund. They refused, so I filed a complaint with the LA BBB. In a series of subsequent BBB exchanges, Mr. Laskow did nothing but argue with me as to why Taxi is not refunding my money. As of today, May 16, 2016, Taxi still has refused to refund my $299.95. I have filed a dispute with my Chase bank and the bank did charge the money back in the meantime, but I'm still waiting for the final results of that dispute. If Taxi doesn't agree to the Visa charge back, and the bank re-charges me, I am set to sue Taxi in LA county small claims court.

Correction regarding Taxi refunding my money...

In my previous update I stated that Taxi refunded my $299.95 back to my Visa credit card. I might be in error stating this. When I wrote the Ripoff Report update, I forgot that I had filed a dispute for the charge through my bank last week, and this charge-back could be the bank's doing-- not Taxi.

As for Taxi, since they still haven't emailed me any formal notification that they have issued a refund, I have to assume that the $299.95 charge-back on my account is probably the bank.

Taxi refunded my $299.95 subscription fee, but...

Sunday April 29, 2018 -- update:

I found out this morning via a letter I received from my bank that Taxi has refunded my $299.95 subscription fee.

Note to Michael Laskow, and anyone who wants to sign up for the Taxi song-submission service:

When a customer wants to cancel their Taxi annual subscription fee, for any reason, do not assume the customer is lying to you like you did with me (I have a copy of your response to my complaint to BBB to prove this); and do not attempt to par favor with a complaintant like you did with me by blatantly lying that I had one of my songs signed by Netflix when no such thing occurred.

If you were indeed mistaken, and you had somehow received incorrect information that a song of mine had been signed, then fine. But if you stated this falsehood to somehow par favor with me because of my complaint, then sir, that is fraud.

To all composers and songwriters out there who want to pay Taxi to listen to their music for possible licensing for use in a television or film company's production, buyer beware. In my opinion if, for any reason, a customer asks to have their money refunded -- especially if their excuse is an unexpected situation as mine with hand surgery -- a company should always refund that money immediately upon the customer's request without arguing, as Michael Laskow did with me.

In this country, any company -- no matter what the product or service they provide -- has a legal and ethical obligation to return a customer's money to them in full when requested -- without arguing, petty disagreements, and misleading comments from any owner, manager, and/or employee of that company.
