In January 2003, I had the driver front axle replaced on my Camry 1992 by Tires Plus in Shakopee, Minnesota. What should have taken an hour took a day and cost me more than double the quoted price. I had to leave my car overnight.

The cost for the repair initial estimated at $235 ended up at $478. After working on the car for about 1 hour they told me that the axle was stuck and they had to remove a part attached to the engine to get it out. The manager told me that it will cost me $400 and that I had to leave the car overnight. I agreed to the repair. The next day I was handed a bill of $478, the manager not admiting that he verbally lied to me on the price.

A week later, while removing the wheel from my car, I noticed that they had forgot to put a cotter pin (safety) on the steering attachment to the hub while putting it back together. I fixed the problem. I went back and talked to the manager who said that he doubted that his mechanic will do such a mistake.

What this gentleman has failed to acknoledge is that we informed him of the shaft being frozen to the hanger bearing almost immediately.

We tried for over an hour(un-billed labor) to try and remove the shaft and were unsuccesful. We then informed him that the hanger bearing would have to be replaced and needed to come from the dealership. He was offered a ride home and DID SIGN the estimate(which he seems to think was changed). He was informed that it would be done the next day, which it was. When he arrived to pick the car up, he complained of the price, I should him his signature of the exact same amount from the day before. If he had contacted the dealership he would have found that the same problem happens frequently and the dealer would have charged over twice as much.
