On August 20, 2013, we bought a voucher via Amazon Local for pre-fall and winter rodent treatment and seal up. The voucher was for a single visit service to a residential home by the Triangle Home Services, Inc.

We called 866-756-3764 in September to redeem the voucher and set up an October appointment with the Triangle Home Services for the rodent treatment.

Rich Garner, the inspector from the Triangle Home Services, came to our house on Oct 9, 2013. My husband and I described to him some mouse activities found in our basement and car port areas a month earlier. Rich suggested that mice mostly likely came down from our attic. After he looked at our attic, he remarked that he could smell mice there.

Rich showed us some abhorrent pictures of rat infestation taken in his customers' houses and warned us that rats reproduced rapidly and caused deadly disease to human beings. The solution he proposed to eradicate rodent was to have Triangle Home Services, Inc. replace the insulation and do attic decontamination. Although we told Rich that we had not planned to remove the insulation this year, Rich insisted this step was a must in order to get rid of the rodents because the insulation was stained with rodents’ urine which could attract more rodents into the house.

Rick charged us $5,480 for the service which included an attic decontamination, removal of all insulation from attic, installation of new insulation, and seal up of all entry points in home (exterior and interior) for an area of 1,500 square feet. We were told to pay a 50% down on the spot. I mistakenly understood that Rich meant a 50% discount and $2,740 was the total payment. Although we had planned to buy a $99 one time treatment and had not prepared to make such an outrageous payment, Rick’s depiction of the consequences of rodent infestation was scary and we considered paying $2,740 in exchange for a house free of rodents was worthy expenses.  So we signed the agreement and paid Rich $2,740 by credit card on Oct 9, 2013.

On Oct 11, 2013, four people from the Triangle Home Services came to our house around 8:30 AM. They removed the insulation, cleaned the attic, and installed new insulation. Their supervisor came later and told me that they had performed the agreed- upon jobs in our house. They left before 2:00 PM that day. I was with them in the house the whole period.

When I received my October’s credit card bill, I found that we were charged $2,740 on Oct 9 and again on Oct 11. The worse news was that, my niece, who was living in my house, got me into her bedroom, asking me to listen to mouse chewing in the ceiling of her room.

I felt very dismayed and called immediately 866-756-3764 for an explanation. Rich called me back to confirm to me that the company’s total charge was $5,480 and what he said 50% down was a down payment, not a discount. I told him that the $5,480 charge was outrageous. When I asked him to explain why we still heard mouse chewing in the attic after the treatment, his answer was that it was not possible for them to kill all the mice. His answer made me furious. I told Rich that if they could not guarantee mouse elimination, there was no reason for us to order the treatment because as Rich told us at his inspection, mice reproduced at a very rapid rate and the urine of the mice in the attic would attract other mice into the house. In a few months, our attic would go back to the same extent of mouse infestation as we had before the treatment which meant our expensive investment in the rodent treatment was worthless. Later that day the owner of the company Travis Fogle called me to offer a bimonthly home treatment for one year as a compensation for the miscommunication.

On November 25, 2013, I wrote a dispute to my credit card requesting Triangle Home Services provide a free one year treatment and a written warranty for at least one year mice free and pass the assessment from an independent inspector before we pay the service charge.  My credit card company conveyed my request to the Triangle Home Services, but was not able to hold the payment for us.

The Triangle Home Services sent an exterminator to our house for a bimonthly home treatment. The exterminator came sometimes with me or my husband at home if we got the phone notification in time. Other times he came with no one at home so he would just spray the outside of the house.

In September 2014, I saw a dead mouse in our basement and we told the exterminator about this. He went to the attic and told us that our roof has some openings at the edge. Even though the opening was very small, the mouse could manage to squeeze its body in. The exterminator placed two mousetraps in the attic. In October 2014, two dead mice were found dead in our attic (see attached).

Following the exterminator’s suggestion to seal the roof openings, I bought a roof repair and maintenance service from the AROCON Roofing and Construction, LLC in October 2014. Rich Canning came to inspect our roof on Oct 23, 2014 and ensured to us our roof was fine. When asked about sealing the opening to block mice out, he emailed us on November 9, 2014 stating  I do not agree with contractor that told you to close ventilation up to prevent mice. The ventilation is important to make sure the roof and plywood deck last as long as it should.”

One year later, my husband and I heard loud chewing noise in our attic again. My husband bought two mouse traps from the Home Depot placed them in our attic. Two days later he saw two dead mice (see Attached). I found a dead mouse in the basement on December 8, 2015.

The detailed description of our experience with our attic decontamination service provided by the Triangle Home Services, Inc. serves as proof that the Triangle Home Services tricked us to pay $5,480 for a service that did not produce the promised results. Since Triangle Home Services, Inc. did not solve our mouse problem, we deserve a full refund of our $5,480 payment for the service.
