Through a deceptive marketing practice (sending out "checks" for $2.50 with very small print about a membership enrollment), this company enticed my elderly mother to deposit the so-called "check" in my bank account while I was away from home.

Upon my return home, I immediately called the company's boiler room (1-800-722-4545)to cancel the service. I also asked the procedure I should use to refund the $2.50 to the company.

The operator in the call center was quite nasty. She insisted I could NOT cancel the service until I received their "welcome" package. Nevertheless, at my insistence she provided me with a "cancellation number."

A month later I received the "welcome" package and, fearing the cancellation had not been processed, I again phoned the call center. The cancellation had NOT been processed!I insisted in canceling the service regardless of the "spiel" offered by the operator about a "free" 90-day period.

I got another cancellation number. But after a third phone call revealed that no cancellation notice had been filed by either of the prior operators, I contacted the Better Business Bureau, the Connecticut Attorney General, and the attorney general of my state of residence.

This despicable marketing practice and refusal to cancel an unwanted membership should not be condoned by our society. The elderly fall victim to it too easily, like my own mother did!

By the way, this company also deals with the AOL credit advantage rip offs and many others.
