TXU Energy Shut off Power When it Wasn't Supposed to Be - Then Wanted Deposit!! Dallas Texas
I own a small business. I am the President, comptroller and Janitor. We make a nice profit every year and we have been in business for 41 years. Since I am the comptroller (and everything else) sometimes I don't make bill payments exactly on time. This happened with TXU on my March 2008 bill. It was supposed to be paid by April 5th and I failed to pay it. A week later, my electricity was cut off with no warning. When I called TXU - they said that I was late with the payment and they had cut off my electricity. I told them that even the LATE NOTICE had not come due yet - but they didn't care. In order for me to have the electricity turned back on - I had to pay over the phone (no problem - it was due).
Once I paid the bill over the phone (all of this had taken less than 30 minutes from cut off to bill pay) they said that perhaps tomorrow they could get it back on. I was furious and insisted that they do it now. They kept saying to me that "the meter had to be where they could get to it." I reminded them each time that I had not moved it since they cut the power off 30 minutes earlier. Apparently they couldn't absorb that much information.
When I got the next bill there was an added $755 for a deposit added in! I called them to tell them why I was not going to pay it and they were insistent that I was going to pay it or get my electricity cut off again!
I finally worked my way up the chain till I got to a fellow named Josh. I asked Josh for a list of energy companies that I could use OTHER than TXU. He gave me the website to find them (www.powertochoose.org). Then I told him that I was going to move my service immediately and that I was not inclined to give him the deposit just so he could hold it for 6 months before giving it back. I referred him to the "Ripoff Report" and told him that TXU has a serious credibility problem. He agreed to not require the deposit. I have to admit that till I get the power with a new company that I fully expect TXU to cut it off again.
When I call them for service, I invariably get some young girl who sounds as though she failed her lesson in ebonics and she is terribly difficult to understand. In addition - she doesn't seem to understand her job. I blame TXU for that situtation as well - they hired her.
