I used U-Haul in order to move myself from one town to another, which is a big stressful job within itself. It did not help that the truck they reserved for me was one that was set to be returned by another person at 8:30 that morning. I was supposed to be there to pick it up at 9:30 am. I made these reservations a month in advance and I fully expected my truck to be there on time as promised.

However, the person that had the truck promised to me decided they'd take their sweet time returning it and didn't get it to the store until 1pm. By the time I picked up the truck, loaded it, came back so they could hook the trailer up to it and got back home to actually get on the road towards my new home, everything was 4 hours behind.

They basically ruined by entire moving day. I was supposed to be out of my apartment by 2pm, but that wasn't possible because of the delay. My landlords COULD have charged me for another day's rent, but thankfully they did not. Also, I had people who asked for time off from work and lost money in order to help me unload when I arrived at my destination, but that never happened because I was so late I didn't end up unloading until the next day. Not only did they inconvenience me, they inconvenienced my family and friends as well.

When I asked the guy ringing me up if I would receive some sort of compensation for the lateness, he just shrugged his idiotic shoulders. Also, not ONCE did I hear the phrase "I'm sorry for the inconvenience" come out of their mouths. The only thing I received was a bigger truck that what I paid for, which I didn't really need and I'm pretty sure they only gave to me because that's all they had.

Anyway, a few days after my moving fiasco, I called the U-Haul store to tell my complaint to the manager and he said the only thing he could offer me was a voucher for $50 to go towards boxes or a truck rental, etc. This might be helpful if it didn't expire in 2 years, seeing as how I have no plans to move in the next 2 years. So really, I got nothing. I spent over $300 (including $80 in gas) for the worst moving experience of my life and I got no compensation or no "I'm sorry". I will be avoiding U-Haul in the future if I can. Unfortunately I had no other choice but to use U-Haul in the city I moved from.
