I had a problem with Union Planters Bank in Clarksville, Tn. I have written a report here on ripoff.com. I also contacted my legal aid society here in Tennessee. My attorney instructed me to file a formal complaint against the bank through the Better Business Bureau. I contacted the BBB and they forwarded my information to the branch of there department that handles bank complaints. I just filled out the complaint as instructed and mailed it back to them. I hope this helps others that were taken advantage of by this bank.

Banks and other businesses actually believed in keeping their customers happy and went out of their way to accomodate their clientele. It used to be, "How can I help you today?". Now, unless you are lucky enough to deal with a credit union or small community bank, it is "How much of your hard-earned money can we screw you over for today?" They don't give a d**n about keeping you happy as a customer. They care about keeping their investors happy. A friend of mine, who works for Bank of America told me that for every $33 overdraft charge, approximately $31 is profit, especially now with Check 21 in place. Granted, you should keep track of every dime you spend and subtract it from your balance, whether or not it has cleared. But banks do manipulate the system to ensure maximum profit for themselves. I agree with you about smaller banks. I moved all of my accounts to a credit union. The atmosphere is 100% friendlier than larger banks, and yes, they do smile and greet me by name. They don't act like they are doing me a favor by taking my money.
