My 5 year old son's flight on United Airlines at 8:14pm on 2 August 2013 from Fairbanks, Ak to Orlando, FL was first delayed and then later canceled.

The airline did nothing to rebook them for a later flight that night stating there were no other flights out that night, nor did they bother to rebook him for the next flight out the next morning.

They did not accomadate my son and my deaf father with arrangments for an extra night in Fairbanks or with any vouchers for meals as they were stuck there for an entire extra day, resulting me purchasing another ticket through another airline to get them out of Fairbanks.

We had to call the airlines on 3 seperate occasions on 3 August 2013 with each time someone hanging up the phone on me. They said they would refund me for a partial ticket which is unacceptable because the refund was no where near the amount I had to pay for extra meals, extra night, and airline tickets I had to pay for.

I feel they took advantage of my father because he was deaf and had no idea what was going on with their flight. They did not bother to properly rebook them for the next flight resulting them missing flights that could have been booked early the next day through other airlines. They did not inform my father of choices he could have made, such as a refund.

The confirmation number to the flight was PCY994 for Charles Radcliffe and Jaydon Fuentes. This matter is very disappointing and frustrating. Customer service was very poor as they hung up the phone without resloving the issue 3 different times.

The travel does not end in Orlando as there is still over a 6 hour drive for my son to get home. Therefore, having a timely flight is very important when making flight arrangements and United Airlines has failed to meet that standard for this travel.

My biggest concern with this failure to properly rebook, is what would have happen if my 5 year old son was traveling alone. Would he still be waiting all day with hopes of catching a flight out? Would they have take the proper precaution and arrangements for an extra night and day?

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I agree that they should have done a much better job than that.

From what you said "what would have happen[ed] if my 5 year[s] old son was traveling alone. Would he still be waiting all day with hopes of catching a flight out? Would they have take[n] the proper precaution and arrangements for an extra night and day?" I would not expect you to include in your report. The reason is that it is a totally different situation. If you have a child younger than 12 years old traveling by plane alone, you will have to pay a fee depending on the airline (i.e. AA is $150 per child). Therefore, they may treat your child differently and who knows how. That's why I say the situation may totally be different.
