The customer stated that he had an "extra" charge on his gas bill because of enrolling in program. When in fact the truth is that the gas cost recovery line from his utility company (the unprotected price he was paying for the actual commodity of the gas) has been removed from his bill and replaced with the "supplier charge". A protected rate that can not fluctuate for 5 years. An educated consumer, or one who wished to be educated will check and see what their gas rates have done for the last 5 years. Reasonably comparable to gasoline price increases. To see what the commodity's price is now, check out nymex.com and the natural gas prices. The customers who enrolled in the program at .99 a year ago will be pleased with their decision. Those who listened to media reports that told incorrect or half of a story and decided not to enroll might have wished they had here in the near future. I personally enrolled last year at .99 per ccf. Current as of today im over .07 cents per ccf below my utilitys price , and last i checked was almost .27 per ccf below the open market price. At some point the utility companys will have to go back to market and buy more gas, if the prices are still around 1.34 per ccf there will be some serious sticker shock on some gas bills. BTW my price will not change till the year 2012.

I came across this, and many other, complaints about universal gas and electric while researching the company. My intentions were to get some background on a potential new employer, and I have to admit I've been appalled at the number of incidents involving said company, every one of which follows the same basic sequence of events. I furthered my scope of investigation and found an interesting lawsuit filed against u g&e. I give a link to the complaint here, http://efile.mpsc.cis.state.mi.us/efile/docs/15426/0001.pdf It is interesting to note count II on page four and maybe this could provide a basis for a group of residential consumers, who lack the resources of a company, to get together and file their own suit and hopefully put an end to the preying practices of this pseudo-company. We all can agree their practices are deplorable. note: information about the suit was found at http://efile.mpsc.cis.state.mi.us/efile/viewcase.php?casenum=15426 Hope this helps or at the very least eases the pain of being fleeced.
