Susan states: "If you eat half of something before it's paid for at the cash register, you've stolen it." Perhaps that's true for you and your local McDonalds. However, I'm not in the habit of pre-paying for my meals in a legitimate restaurant. In fact millions of people are consuming food that has yet to be paid for as you are reading this. As to a store, there is NO INTENT TO DEFRAUD until you attempt to leave the premises. Period. So, I can place an item in my coat pocket walk around the store, then remove it at the cash register and pay for it. No harm, no foul, and woe be unto anyone that then tries to detain me. Furthermore, in this case, he even had a receipt! What do you not understand about this case? My advice to Raven is to file criminal and civil charges against these clowns and let the system work for her.

You did not READ my report. I was standing in-line and paid for this item. Their response was AFTER I PAID FOR ITEM! What don't you 'understand'> It's not alright for VALUE CITY to harass anyone for anything. 'nuff said.

This situation? Bad. I don't envy the person who posted it. But for anybody who reads this... it's the most excellent example of why you don't do things like that in the first place. If you eat half of something before it's paid for at the cash register, you've stolen it. Now, no store employee in their right *mind* would try to bust somebody over half a beef jerky when it was paid for afterwards, but that doesn't matter. It's not okay. Until you hit the cash register, that thing in your hand belongs to the store, not you. Food is not an exception.
