If anyone has experienced an issue with Value Plus, Magazine Rewards Plus, the Travel and Leisure Club or any other membership subscription offered by Sempris, take note. These may have been "sold" to you while you were placing an order by telephone for products advertised on television. 

Although many of the reports here state that the individual "did not authorize the charges," the agent selling these programs did, in fact, read the terms and conditions of the sale. They may have done so very quickly so that you wouldn't have time to process the information, but they are required to do so or risk losing their job. The calls are all recorded, so your "yes" "okay" or "um hum" response is on tape, which is how the company gets by with stating that you authorized the charges. During the sales pitch, the agent is REQUIRED to provide the toll free cancellation telephone number. Please write it down.

The caveat here is, please PLEASE listen to the person who you're speaking with if you are ordering anythiing by telephone. This company tacks on their pitches at the end of the product sale, so you are probably sick and tired of listening to the person on the phone and just want to get things over with. They know you're ready to say "yes" to anything just to be able to hang up. If you are asked for your credit card number and expiration date a second time during a sales call, STOP. When you provide this information (and generally they also ask you to press the pound key on your phone afterward) you ARE authorizing them to charge you after the 30 day trial period is over.

If you want to cancel, please do NOT call the telephone number you called to order your product. The agent on the line does not have any direct relationship with Sempris. Look through the paperwork you receive; it should have a customer service telephone number or a cancellation number. It will also have a membership number on it, which you will have to use to cancel or make changes to your membership.

Sempris, aka Value Plus, aka Travel and Leisure Club, aka Magazine Rewards Plus, has been cited hundreds of times for deceptive sales practices and for their billing practices. They have cleaned up their act somewhat, but many of the changes amount to CYI measures rather than improvements in customer service or in the value of what they are selling (discount programs). They count on people forgetting to cancel, throwing away their membership information so that they don't have the proper information to cancel, and generally not using the services they signed up for. 

Remember - there are no free lunches in the world. You need to ask why any company would offer you a $50 gift card  and a $20 rebate on your purchase just to try them out for 30 days. They would have to KNOW that the ROI on that offer is at least twice what they gave you to make it worthwhile.

 Ordering any product from infomercials is extremely risky because of who these companies hire to take their calls. Any number that is called from the tv to order a product or get information is being answered by another company. Credit card information is sold and personal information is sold to a data bank company and as you know, promises are not kept. Every "additional offer, " which is "Free Rewards Plus, " "Magazines, " etc, the company taking the calls for all infomercials benefits financially with these scams. Anyone who have elderly people in their families need to warn them about buying products on infomercials or even calling numbers from the tv, in order to protect them because that is who these companies prey on.
