I have 3 phones and a tablet with Verizon Wireless. This complaint is in regards to 2 Motorola Razr m handsets on my plan. My husband and I used to love these phones until the new Android kit kat update. Verizon is very aware of the software incompatibility issue between this phone and kit kat (although, they deny any knowledge). A quick Google search will prove that we are only two, of many people with the same issue. Since upgrading to kit kat, we have a whole list of issues with our devices, which are listed as follows :

1.The battery life is terrible. A full charge will last me 3 hours, where it used to last me 2 days! A long lasting battery is one of the selling points of this phone model.

2. Only getting 3G instead of 4G. The devices rarely dropped to 3g until the update.

3. Dropped Calls! We never had any issues with Verizon's service until this update. My son who carries an iPhone on our plan, never experiences issues with dropped calls.

4. Apps "stop working", constantly! Built in apps, such as Quick Office, Google Play, Motorola Services...among others.

5. The phone is slow and/or locks up. We never had this problem before the update.

6. The device will randomly start opening apps on it's own.

I have called Verizon numerous times about our issues and was told I would have to purchase new devices. I believe this is wrong and bad business. Especially since we were forced to accept the software upgrade that Verizon is aware is not compatible with this handset.

While I agree that an update can mess up your phone, all YOU have to do is plug it into your computer and download one of the older versions of Android. Be PROACTIVE and handle this yourself instead of expecting Verizon to replace your phones cause it aint going to happen. Your battery life CAN be explained pretty much, your complaints 1-4 are NOT about the update as the update DOESNT effect those areas. However 5 and 6 are so I would focus on those. 1.Battery Life. If you have had your phone for more then a year, then it stands to reason that THIS issue is with your battery DIRECTLY. Since the RAZR M has a Kevlar back it is also NOT able to have the battery removed. 2.3G.....Third generation instead of forth generation is easy. Too many customers in the immediate area eating the fourth gen data. Which means that you are defaulted to 3G. 3. Dropped calls......This one is even easier then the data problem. Same cause. Too many people in the immediate area attempting to place calls. This causes a backload on the system and pretty much means that the call was dropped due to too many calls being placed at once. You have to remember that YOU are NOT the only Verizon customer at that particular time. There ARE others and THEY have the same right to make a call as you, so be patient. Im guessing that your "dropped calls" only happen during the day when there is a ton of traffic. More then likely both your call and data clear up after 5pm local. 4. Apps stop working......That one can be solved by putting a bigger SD card in your phone. Everytime you receive a text message, you are eating phone memory. Same with every contacts, apps, pictures, and videos. YOU as a consumer may never notice the slow down on your phone until its too late and bogged down. What THAT sounds like is that you need to manage your device memory better. I take one day a week and go through my phone and ERASE any texts I have that I don't want to keep. This frees up some internal memory and my apps run smoother and faster. I would suggest that EVERYONE do this, but unfortunately it takes an incident like YOURS where your phone is now acting funky before people tend to learn that "Data Maintenance" is needed and has to be done often the older a phone gets. Transfer as much as you can OFF of the phone and ON to the SD card. This will help and your phone will be faster for it. 5.Slow/lockup....It CAN be the update doing this but more often then not it falls back to the DATA issue. Too much on the phone and no available memory equals slow/lockup. Just because YOU can make a call on it doesn't change the FACT that YOU have in your hands a small computer. Just because its not as big as a laptop or desktop PC doesn't change what it IS. Too many consumers IGNORE this little fact. The very same precautions YOU have to take with your home PC you MUST take with your smartphone. Lastly......YOU could have a few viruses on your handset. All it would take is receiving an email, just like at home, and YOUR device is compromised. I would suggest that YOU download a good antivirus APP. Its very possible that number 6 complaint is DIRECTLY tied to a virus. You MAY be surprised to find out how much nasty stuff you have on your phone when you do this. I have found that AVG is a good antivirus for its price. Its free, so you are getting MUCH more then you pay for in THIS instance. But I would also suggest that YOU BUY a antivirus since the free ones tend to be "behind the curve" a bit. Meaning that the FREE one isn't as up to date as one would like. Good luck in your fight with Verizon. I hope I have been able to give you some good SOLID information that MAY help you out. I would also tell you that you should download a task killer app. I use "Advanced Task Killer" its useful and it gives you a great tool. Remember your phone IS a computer and just like your home PC, there are ALWAYS programs running in the background that YOU are unaware of.
