Complaint Review: Wal-Mart - Nationwide

Wal-Mart
USA, Worldwide Nationwide, U.S.A.
Web:
N/A
Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Why Walmart is an anti-worker, un-American wolf in sheep's clothing:

1. Walmart discourages,in the strongest sense union

representation. While it bills itself as "pro-worker"

wages and benefits are very poor.

2. Use of third-world child labor to unfairly compete and

bring underpriced goods to market.

3. Wal-Mart gives it's employees "fake" benefits.

while many companies give employees tuition benefits,

Walmart gives employees assistance in getting a GED.

anybody in the USA can get a GED for free.

Walmart offers new employees a Sam's Club card for $35.00

which is the same price you can buy it for off the street

and doesn't give it's employees any discount from the price

of goods purchased at Sam's clubs.

4. Wal-mart doesn't call its workers employees it calls them

associates. Why? is this to disavow them if they cause some

embarrassment?

5. Wal-mart does not give equal pay for equal work. One

employee may be hired at $6.00 another doing the same

job may get much more. I recently got myself hired to

find out for myself. Such wage inequality seems

terribly wrong when we are talking about one of America's

largest, wealthiest employers.

6. Wal-mart employees cannot afford health insurance. While I

cannot verify the numbers I have heard only 2 percent of

it's employees have the health insurance.

7. Wal-mart destroys 4 to 5 jobs for every one that it creates.

Again I cannot verify exact numbers. Wal-Mart is

expanding into Europe, South America, Canada and Mexico.

While the effect be just as negative there???

How many business enterprises do you know of being outright

banned in America? Probably few if any, right? Well, in

many towns and communities Wal-mart has been shown for the

wolf it really is and is not permitted to open in many

places including the state of Vermont.

8. Wal-mart maintains a very strong propaganda machine in its

internet division. Wal-mart was noted for recently laying

off 10 percent of it's internet army. If you do a

"word-search" using a popular search engine you will find

that Wal-mart has positive information on the first 100

sites or so. You have to go past these to get to the dirt!

Wow ..The "anti-union" message must have been written by a manager

The "anti-union" message must have been written by a manager at Wal-mart. If you think that unions have the upper hand in this day and age, you really haven't followed what's going on. I personally am glad we still have unions. If you think only unions have greed and corruption, you're dreaming. I worked for a plastics company where the secretaries who were sleeping with the boss got thousands as their bonus while the foremen working 12 hours a day got a couple hundred if that. I can tell you that these guys got together and got unionized soon after. To the person who said that they allow you only 14 pounds a day to eat on, did they mention that you are to stun a pigeon with your briefcase on the way to the fleabag hotel and cook it up on your travel iron?

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report: Their email: [email protected] Their name: Bloke Radcliffe Their relationship to the company: Advocate Rebuttal: I'm sorry, this is not a rebuttal. I'm on the side of Ripoffreport.com as a former employee. Read on: o you want to hear some real dirt from the Home Office? I worked there for several years in Information Systems, eventually becoming the manager of several teams. A few facts: The Home Office has a "Christmas Angel" tree every year for "Wal-Mart Families. The presents from this tree go to children of Wal-Mart Home Office employees who don't feel like they have enough money for a stupendous Christmas. Examples of gift requests? Playstations, Gameboys, etc... Home Office employees work a minimum 45 hour week, on salary. There is no "official" compensation or time off granted if you work overtime, even if it's a 90 hour week. (I did this once.) This is true slave labor. I did the math. Wal-Mart owes me 110 vacation days for the 4 years I worked more than industry accepted 40 hour weeks. If you're a Manager at Wal-Mart, you "get" two weekends off a month. That's actually how they phrased it! Like it's a gift that you get half as much weekend time with your family now that you've been promoted. The new Information Systems building in Bentonville, Arkansas actually has showers and beds so programmers don't have to go home to their families in the middle of a big project. (Some family company this is!) Employees are classified as A, B or C level. This is NOT published to anyone but management. C level people are given crap task after crap task until they quit or fail enough to be fired. B people are just kindof ignored and A people never see their loved ones again because they carry the load for the company. There is no way in Hell any employee will ever find out what their classification is. It is top secret. All managers are required yearly to complete a survey in which they list their employees in order of who they would kick off a lifeboat first. There is a small device called a "Comp Scanner" which is taken by store associates into competing stores. It scans UPC codes and the associate types in the price for the UPC. It is taken back to the store and put into a cradle which uploads the information so Wal-Mart can lower prices accordingly. Can anyone say "Corporate Espionage?" Wal-Mart has a policy of not paying any bill until it is so late that the collectors are calling (at least 30 days). This allows Wal-Mart to keep it's money longer in the bank (Bank of Bentonville, which Wal-Mart owns) to collect interest. The Wal-Mart cheer. I just had to mention this. It is one of the most degrading things I have ever done, and I did it at least once a month for 4 years. It surprises nobody as much as Wal-Mart associates themselves that nobody has yet shown up to the office with a shotgun. Wal-Mart is cheap when it comes to travel. All flights for everyone, including Corporate Officers, are COACH. Even International flights (when the private jets aren't used.) Daily meal stipends? I was in England and got $14 per day. That's about 11 Pounds. A coke costs 2 Pounds. You do the math. You either starve yourself or pay your own way. (Don't even get me started on the fleabag motels they stick you in.) If that's not enough, you have to deal with the holier than thou Walton family. I think we all heard about a certain Walton pulled over for drunk driving who said "Don't you know who I am?" (Bless those officers who arrested her anyway...) Anyway, that's all I have right now. I'm sure some more painful memories will come flooding back at some point and I'll add to this then.

It's called greed.

Rebuttal:
The culture or "spirit" of Wal Mart only reflects the attitude and mental disposition of our society regarding money and materialism. Duh, you pay for quality. Duh, you don't work for a chemical company no matter what the pay is because there is always that risk years later you were rolling in benzene.

What is the point of a corperation when it no longer serves the people who make it up?
Why doesn't wal mart do background checks? Is it fair to other employees to work with criminals?

The same George Bush types (I'm sure most of Wal Mart's top people are)that get on their religious soap box, are the same peoole profiting from violent movies, disgusting music @#$%!, and the sweat and blood of someones else's labor overseas. I'm sure they can all justify it in their mind. As one chemical company stated in a memo to it's now sterile male workers,"Well, you can always adopt."

Just don't shop there! And tell everyone why! Besides they are not cheaper. From what I've heard, 8,000 items are a penny or two cheaper, 20,000 are the same as competitors, and 20,000 are actually higher.

PS with out unions we wouldn't have weekends, a minimum wage, OSHA, we'd never gotten out of the great depression (redistibution of wealth), and we'd be living in a shanty town like those in central America.

It's called greed.

This nonsense that you hear about Wal-Mart destroying Main Street, USA is propaganda invented by city fathers who have it in their best interest to see Wal-Mart out of the community.

Rebuttal:
What a load of poop. The Rip-Off Report fills an invaluable niche in our information society, and for someone to waste the bandwidth with such a ridiculous screed. Point-by-point:

1. Most American companies discourage union representation, the same way most American companies discourage low revenues, high expenses, etc. All Wal-Mart can do about union recruiting efforts is propagandize against them. If you (if you truly work at Wal-Mart) want to unionize, knock yourself out. But don't say you weren't warned.

2. By third world child labor, do you mean all those people working in Wal-Marts are really twelve year old Malaysians?

3. Of course the GED is free. Tutoring and test prep are not, however.

4. Calling someone an associate is certainly un-American! And why would Wal-Mart "disavow" an employee/associate? Are they involved in espionage?

5. I guess when Wal-Mart hires you you automatically get access to their payroll system. Ludicrous.

6. You present information that you have not seen but heard and can not verify. Perhaps you know also who killed JFK?

7. How does Wal-Mart profit if it carpetbombs local economies? This nonsense that you hear about Wal-Mart destroying Main Street, USA is propaganda invented by city fathers who have it in their best interest to see Wal-Mart out of the community. The city fathers are the ones who are exploiting the "worker," owning the only hardware stores, groceries, sporting good stores, etc. in rural areas. Competition and low prices do
more for the worker than unions and idiot jeremiads like yours. Oh yeah, we wouldn't want Wal-Mart destroying those thriving Mexican and South American economies by opening up there, would we?

8. The only propaganda at work here is union propaganda. If you've got it in for Wal-Mart, if they have ripped you off, if you know of a scam, by all means we'd love to hear it. But if you have the same old tired complaints about corporate America, send them to Reader's Digest.

..we use as much non-UNION labor as possible to bring reasonable prices to the table. Wal-Mart avoids child labor at all costs.

Rebuttal:

1. Wal-Mart is an associate owned business. The associates (employees)don't want a union because unions are full of knuckle-dragging, slack-jawed, club-wielding thugs who just want your money. Each union is run by a royal, elite family who keep all high position union administration jobs within the family. Suddenly the union president is on the payroll, his wife, his five kids, uncles, aunts and even the dogall at union dues expense. He and his family drive a Mercedes while I drive a
12 year old Ford escortno thanks.

2. No, we use as much non-UNION labor as possible to bring reasonable prices to the table. Wal-Mart avoids child labor at all costs.

3. Fake Benefits? Last time I checked I receive a cash bonus, profit sharing and a 10% discount. Not to mention inexpensive medical and dental. I guess that's nothing like the mighty union 401K that the union administration is ALWAYS pilfering, eh?

4. We're called associates because we are part owners of the company. Wal-Mart GIVES us a piece of the company EVERY YEAR in the form of profit sharing. What does the union giveoh yeah! DUES!!! DUES!! And MORE DUES! And if you don't PAY your dues, they will kick your butt out of the union! Yeah, they are for the people those unions.

5. You don't know what your are talking about here. I've been with the company 16 years. They provide equal pay for equal jobs. But Wal-Mart DOES reward the person who works harder with bigger raises. Unlike the unions who give everyone the same. That way the lazy a*s who works next to you who always dumps his load on you gets equal payreally fair, right? Oh yeah, and if that lazy butt has one month seniority on you he could even be your boss. Unions blow.

6. What a crock of crap. Everyone in my store has insurance including me. It's not expensive. The only ones I know who don't get it are the college kids who come in a peak time for extra dough and they just want a few weeks work. You don't know what the hell you are talking about.

7. If Wal-Mart truly crushed that many jobs then I think the government would have cracked down by now. Looks like you cut a pasted union propaganda from some web page. Unions trash more jobs than Wal-Mart ever will. Here's what I meanin Springfield Illinois a union, with it's YEARLY, greedy, obnoxious strikes, caused the Catepillar factory to shut it's doors and move out of the country5,000 JOBS!!! Now Decatur Illinois is shutting down it's Firestone plantconstant union strikes!! I'll bet those greedy SOB's wish they hadn't went on strike so many times now.

8. Everyone wants to make money or get attention off of Wal-Mart's fame that means you too. You will notice that most of the anti Wal-Mart sites aresurprise, surpriseunion supported pages. Some are gasp! Trial attorney pageswow, all who want to suck money out of Wal-Mart.

I had a union job once it was awful. I was forced to do things that were unethical. They constantly harassed management and vandalized their houses. We were encouraged to bully people who question union rules. They used to bus us to strange work sites to picket for other unions, we were paid daily. I had to work with LAZY people all day long and carry their workload. They would have us go into grocery stores with no unions and dump shelves of food, throw dead mice in the produce and cause havoc
so they could film the store as a health hazard. They had me brainwashed in the beginning that management was out to screw us and could care less if we died. Then I learned it was the other way around. The day I watched the fat assed union steward drive up to a McDonalds where I was eating lunch in a $50,000 Lexus I knew the truth. He was there to try to get the kids to unionizeer pay for his Lexussame thing.
