When Walmart had gotten the new debit/credit card machines, I had told the manager at the store there that it was impossible for vision impaired people to use. By using touch, there is nothing to help in distinguishing the numbers.

I had even called the Walmart head office to find a solution for this problem. They were unwilling to help or even change. I had given them a suggestion to solve this problem but instead they told me that they were not in violation of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). I knew better.

When Safeway had gotten the same machines, they provided me with a special braille overlay to solve the problem of where the numbers are. Safeway had saved one of their braille overlays JUST for my own personal use. Which I now carry with me wherever I go, because of the shortsightedness of stores who are unwilling to pay attention to their customers needs.

When I went to Walmart and used my overlay, the checker called the assistant manager over (who had been extremely rude to me about the machines earlier), and showed her the overlay. It took a year of complaints but Walmart FINALLY has overlays for their machines. When I had first brought this to their attention, I was told that I was ignorant and stupid.

Another time, I was shopping alone and needed assistance in finding things while they were remodeling the store. After their extreme reluctance in finding someone to help me in the store, I went on my own and asked other customers for their assistance. They were helpful and I finished my shopping.

Walmart needs to learn how to deal with the public and pay attention to their customer's needs!

I have REAL BIG issue of the suggestion to the gentleman that is vision impaired, to hand over his credit/debit card!!! Especially if it is a debit. Who put's in the pin if he can't see? Does he have to call it out? And handing over a credit card to anyone is a BIG NO! NO! My grandmother just got ripped off at Steinmarts that way at the jewelry counter, because the girl took her card and must of had on of those machines that copies the numbers. A few days later my grandmother who doesn't even own a horse bought 2 new saddle about 1500 miles away. Nice huh? My suggestion? Walmart needs to get off their duff and become more customer needs oriented!

If you are incapable of using the credit card machine at Walmart, all you have to do is hand your credit card to the cashier and he/she will run it through for you. So you see, they DO provide acommodations to make it possible for you to shop there. It may not be 100% to YOUR liking but they have done everything as required by law and then some!
