in order to make them appear to be legitimate. That is why all forms of telemarketing should be outlawed. Particularly NOW when we have technology like Voice Over IP (VoIP). This allows callers to create their own caller id information and no way to track it back to the person making the calls. You cannot trust that anyone calling you is actually part of a legitimate organization. The reason why your complaints about the harrassing telemarketer calls in violation of the DNC laws are not dealt with is because SCAMMERS do not follow the law and don't give a d**n. The government can't do anything because they cannot find the culprits responsible. The scammers are already attempting to steal your money or identity - violating DNC laws means nothing to them.

As a current Wells Fargo Employee, I can guarantee you that Wells is NOT selling any information to telemarketers. Not only is it illegal for WF to do so, we have had MANY customers and non-customers call regarding similar instances, and, after extensive investigation, have discovered it is actually an attempt at identity theft from several crime rings across the country using Wells Fargo's name as their own. As far as the iPod scheme, Well's Fargo had a real promotion that gave away iPods (I coincidentally spoke to a winner of an iPod yesterday, actually) and that is the basis for the fraudulent activity you are referring to... criminals feed off of legitimate information and twist it so retrieve the info they are looking for. If anyone is speechless when you are calling to voice your accusations, its out of a sincere inability verbally disprove your accusations over the phone. That, or because they truly have no idea what you are talking about. In the event you are truly convinced that we are selling your information, I would highly recommend going into a local branch and request copies of our privacy policy. Just out of curiosity, how did we get non-customer information to begin with? I am not being a smart a*s, just curious if you are solely referring to illegitimate calls and mailings (with information anyone could find on the internet, a phone book, etc...). It is unfortunate that individuals feel they have the right and the need to violate anyone's identity and personal information, but that is how it is right now.
