Western Digital has been engaging in deceitful rebate practices

I bought a Western Digital 200 MB hard disk from Fry's electronics when they opened a store in Renton, WA (near Seattle). I bought the device around the end of last August for $194. Western Digital offered $95 rebate, so I bought one based on the "good deal" as they advertised it.

Right after I bought the product, I mailed the UPC bar code I cut from the package, the original receipt of the store, and two separate rebate coupons given by Fry's: one for a $70 rebate, and another for a $25 rebate, for a total of $95 rebate that Western Digital advertised at Fry's. I didn't hear anything from Western Digital until last December, with a stamp on my rebate envelop that says Expired, with no explanation of anything when the rebate suppose to expire, when did they receive my rebate coupons, etc.

What's worse, they only returned one of the two coupons I mailed to them, so I am left in cold to get $95 back from either them or Fry's. I went back to Fry's to ask for return of the product, and at Fry's customer service counter, several other customers told me that they ran into the same problem. They told me to call Western Digital.

I called them, and their rep told me to mail the materials I have, yet again, to the same rebate office in Young America, MN, with a different P.O.Box number. I did, and attached a letter asking for the refund I am fully entitled to as they promised in their advertisement, and never heard anything back from them.

This kind of practice of con consumer by promising a rebate, and then simply refuse to honor their rebate, in order to make money, is totally dishonest, and it's deceitful and fraudulent. This kind of bad corporate behavior should be exposed to all the consumers so less people will be cheated by them.

It's a pathetic way to make money this way. Shame on Western Digital! Whoever in their Yong America, MN office started this kind of con artist practiced ought to be fired and brought justice!
